When the weather is hot, ice cream always come on your mind.

If you happen to be around Bukit Timah, make sure you head over to this small shop along Jalan Jurong Kechil; which they have a few choice of ice cream to cold you down.

What’s special about their ice cream would be the decoration on top of it, which are different based on what flavour you order.

The wild strawberries comes in strong visual against the grass outside their shop. $7

Their Black Forest has 70% chocolate sorbet, cherry compote, mascarpone and crumble. Again, it’s pricey, but we also appreciated the variety in textures which made it fun to have. Liked the bittersweet chocolate, this was really similar to a Black Forest cake in ice cream form 😂

Understand from the owners that they are currently working on more flavours and items to introduce!

Impromptu ice cream stop to the new Dimanche 49, a takeaway spot tucked along Suites at Bukit Timah! They have a fixed 5 flavours on the menu for now. Each scoop is paired with a unique set of toppings and an option to top up to swap from cups to their chai tea flavoured cones. There were only 2 flavours available when we popped by - Wild Strawberries and Black Forest. Other 3 are Tiramisu, Praline and Ispahan.

The Wild Strawberries had strawberry gelato, mascarpone, microsponge and crumble. This was a very pretty cup and we did appreciate the variety in textures. The strawberry gelato was a bit more on the milky end, while I would have liked a more distinct strawberry tangy-ness from. Quite a pricey cup, but was a pretty refreshing one.

Have heard about Dimanche 49’s existence at Suites at Bukit Timah — a mixed-use development along Jalan Jurong Kechil just a short walk away from Upper Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre as well as the stretch of cafes along Lorong Kilat; fairly walkable from Beauty World MRT Station. Being more of a kiosk, Dimanche 49 serves up ice-cream and sorbets, though featuring a rather limited selection and that all of the flavours do come with a pre-determined combination of toppings; does remind us somewhat of now-defunct Ice Queen formerly at East Coast Road, though without the nitro cream element.

The Ispahan comes sees a lychee sorbet, paired with macaron shells, raspberry compote and rose petals — a combination of elements one would have expected out of this classic flavour. Quite enjoyed how the Ispahan is quite a light dessert to go for; the lychee sorbet being rather subtle yet refreshing without being anywhere near icy, whilst paired with heavier elements both in terms of flavour and texture — the macaron shells giving a firmer bite and chew while the raspberry compote providing a denser consistency than the sorbet, carrying a distinct, tart note that was pretty zippy to say the least. Wasn’t quite a fan of the dehydrated rose petals here though. It gave the dessert a rather odd crunch that stood out on its own; also stuck to the teeth rather easily and did carry a slight bitter undertone — not particularly disturbing but also just didn’t feel like it went along with the other elements. Perhaps using normal petals may just work better?

While the concept is pretty interesting, Dimanche 49 may seem a little bit of a misfit in the area that it is situated in — also the lack of dine-in seats may pose a challenge for them against the competition considering there is an Udders and a Salted Caramel outlet situated not too far away. That being said, they do offer their ice-cream with toppings with cones also — the cones being infused with Chai Tea; interesting as it may be, but perhaps also a little messy to eat considering how the toppings will come along with the ice-cream as well. Will be pretty interesting to see how Dimanche 49 would fare in time ...
