After a short hike up Bukit Timah Hill, we went to check out @fengxiangbkt located at Beauty World.

Famed for their KL-Style Bak Kut Teh and Fried Porridge, I was really fascinated with the rousing flames from the stove as the chef skilfully flips the wok. Just a look at it, one could imagine the tantalising scent of wok-hei to be tasted. Swipe to watch it!

Hereโ€™s what we tried:

The star dish of the day! Every mouthful of porridge was bursting with wok-hei! Though the wok-hei flavour here tasted a little different from the usual, we thoroughly enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the smooth consistency throughout the bowl of porridge.

@fengxiangbkt specialise in โ€œauthentic Klang Bak Kut Tehโ€, serving up Herbal and Dry Bak Kut Teh in claypot. I find the Dry Bak Kut Teh to be rather unique as I donโ€™t usually see it on menu. While their fried porridge gave me a pleasant surprise, I canโ€™t help but feel a little disappointed with their Bak Kut Teh dishes. It seems to be lacking the depth and robustness that I was expecting.

We also got sides such as ๐…๐— ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐‚๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ, ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐š๐จ and ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ ๐Œ๐ž๐ž๐ฌ๐ฎ๐š to go along with the mains.

First look at this and I was worried that it might end up too sweet since it looked very well-coated in dark soy sauce. Happy to report that it didnโ€™t! There was a sweetness, but it was balanced out nicely with the slight spice and strong touches of savoury notes with strips of cuttlefish. Enjoyed how fresh and crunchy they were too.

Thank you @fengxiangbkt for the kind invite! โœจ

Crunchy, well-marinated and not at all too salty or oily. There were some slices that were quite fatty, but we didnโ€™t mind it. Thereโ€™s a couple of fried porridge options and one of them is with this pork cutlet as a topping - Iโ€™d recommend that because you get a taste of both items. On its own in this ala carte portion, it would better for sharing.

This I was less a fan of as I found it a tad too sweet, slightly lacking in the depth of flavour we were hoping for. It did come with quite a bit of ingredients though! They also do a dry version for their BKTs, which Iโ€™m keen to try next time. The dry version at $7.90 for the regular.

Didnโ€™t know what to expect tbh, but it was good! Full of wok hei in this small claypot, and you get a generous portion for this price. Itโ€™s thick, flavourful and garlicky with a touch of herbal note. The addition of strips of dried cuttlefish also gave that extra oomph! The slices of pork we had were tender, though a bit more fatty. Choice of their fried porridge comes with various toppings, like Mixed Pig's Organ Fried Porridge ($5.90) and Sliced Fish Fried Porridge ($6.90).

If youโ€™re looking for just one item to order, Iโ€™d recommend getting the FX Pork Cutlet Fried Porridge ($6.90) cause it has both the fried pork cutlet and fried porridge that we enjoyed most during our brunch! You can also add on extra ingredients as much as you'd like, like minced pork ($1), and pork cutlet ($2 for 6 slices).
