Checked out Teck Hin Delicacies (01-30) at Ghim Moh and for $2, it is very good value.

Like yin and yang, carrot cake is a complex duality comprised of two contrastedly different but familiar sides. Never been a fan of black and I'd describe the average plate of black carrot cake as "boring" โ€” drenched in sweet sauce and laboriously monotonous in flavour.

But I tried ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ($4) at Ghim Moh Carrot Cake and the black stole my heart; never knew black carrot cake could be this good.

They found the sweet spot of imbuing enough of the sauce's robust sweet-savouriness, while not overpowering the carrot cake's natural flavour and delectable egginess. The chili added a punching heat that tied everything together. I was smitten by that impeccable texture, which was drier with a springiness and a tad of chewiness, and a good mix of crunchiness.

The white was also good, with a beautiful outer crisp that hides a moist but not mushy interior, and the chili blended in nicely.

A very decent plate of fried carrot cake where you can have the best of both worlds at Hock Soon Carrot Cake stall (01-20).

Mini Lemon loaf

From a new stall at Ghim Moh market with a sure enough intriguing name -

I Guess itโ€™s a cheek in tongue - just to highlight the fact how the modern day person does things without an a feel - typically fully mechanised and Automated .

Never mind about the name - I managed to grab the last piece of this mini lemon loaf slice .

Spongy , soft and with a real lemon aroma and good citrusy taste to cut through the richness of the butter.

Itโ€™s like a breath of fresh air in a hot humid typically Ching Chong Chinese market .

For 2 dollars , a rather small piece but with every dollar for the quality .

They will be / have brought on flavours like the usuals - banana/ Mable cake etc and may possibly consider muffins in the near future .

With the addition of black soya sauce, this carrot cake is significantly sweeter and wetter than its white counterpart. It is crumbly and messy to eat, but I suspect most people would just scoop a big spoonful of it to eat anyways!

From the famous stall at #01-16, this carrot cake is crisp and filled generously with chye poh.
