The lunch set comes with rice and a glass of beverage. The soup is quite spicy and you cannot literally avoid chilies in every spoon of the soup. Ingredients include squit, fish slices and prawns.

Perhaps appealing more to the lunch crowd in the vicinity, the dinner service on a weekday seemed to be quieter than I would expect. But I knew of Jai Thai as a restaurant serving authentic Thai food at affordable prices, so no surprise to how I would walk down Purvis Street to have this.

And so their Tom Yum Soup (S$8.00 for Small portion) had sufficient sour and spicy flavours to go with the relatively decent portion of seafood, including prawn, dory and squid, coupled with an assortment of mushrooms. Honestly, just one of this with a bowl of brown rice would be a satisfying dinner for me, only that I would subconsciously compare this with that from their Clover Avenue outlet...

Had mixed platter, mango salad, Deep Fried Sea bass with Chilli Sauce, Pad Thai, Fried Kang Kong and Fried Rice with Chicken Basil Leaf. We ordered medium size for most of the dishes. Food is generally pretty nice and the portion is quite suitable to be shared among 5. I’m particularly impressed by the fried rice which is really hot and spicy.

I have tried pad thai in many places and I still keep coming back to Jai thai because they do it my way - the way I like it .

The pad thai is not oily at all ( how is that even possible ???) , not too sweet and the noodles are of a q q texture .

My only complaint is the crystal looking prawns...

Will remember to open for my usual vegetarian phad thai the next time round 😊

Very affordable thai food in central area .

Such a hearty dish of warm silken toufu drenched with a tasty thai basil chicken sauce that’s not too salty.

Pair it rice ( lots and lots ) 😝.

A good variation from the usual prawn Claypot tang hoon ( vermicelli) is this beancurd Claypot tang hoon.

You can the same tasty vermicelli cooked in a myriad of aromatics , white peppercorns and spring onions and nice juicy pieces of pan fried beancurd.

This is the only place I can find this Claypot beancurd variation and the vermicelli is cooked till perfection every time - neither too greasy Nor too dry - just the right balance .
