So bloody good. The handcut spuds follow a triple-cooking process of steaming, freezing, then deep-frying, resulting in outstanding chips that are bewitchingly crisp on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender on the insides. Now, the beauty about boiling then freezing your spuds is that those crumbly, cracked, frayed edges stay firm and attached to your chips and become the most crazily crispy bits after kissing hot oil. Cutting the chips up by hand also means you’ve got some thick fluffy ass wedges like pieces, as well as some really thin and fking crispy ones — both together, make a solid packet of chips. These were really well-seasoned too so really I’ve got no complaints. I’d gladly walk in just to get a pack of their fries, sans the burger 🙃I
The thing about greasy fast food, is that most of the times no one gives a crap about making the components from scratch. It’s more about finding the right supplier, frying everything then dishing it up; not a whole lot of originality there. Doesn’t mean it ain’t good, just that it’s a lot harder to stand out. But the fact is not every supplier offers the same kinda fries, and obviously not all cheese sauces are equal. I, for one, am not a fan of CHIPPY’s nacho cheese, nor all cinema nacho cheese sauces that has too much of a commercial kinda flavour and a strong underlying sweetness. But I do fancy myself some KFC cheese fries. And as far as cheese fries go, I gotta say that Chix Hot Chicken does a CRAZY mean one. Cheese sauce is GREAT, not overly ‘fake’ if you get what I mean, and is generously ladled over a bed of super tasty and fluffy fries. They’re REALLY fluffy, more thick than your average ones, and really well-seasoned — so so important. “Yeah sure but these are just fries,” you say. Never underestimate the role of fries in a fast food meal mate. Anyhoo, Chix Hot Chicken’s FINALLY getting takeaways and deliveries done! So you guys know where to go if em fast food cravings hit 😘
Cause that glossy yolk got me like 😍🙌🏻 For the life of me I can't seem to remember what this dish is, though I'm guessing it was a Sloppy Joes Fries kinda thing, with country gravy, chunky bacon bits, and a lovely sunny side up. While I'd love a little more spice and depth in the gravy seeing how the same gravy is used throughout, the bacon and egg already means a big yay from us.
Definitely not your average spam chips. Crisp and not at all greasy, with the insides still soft and moist, the lunch chips themselves were definitely one of the better ones I've had. The most ingenious component though, was the super addictive yuzu mayo on the side. The yuzu gave it a slight bitterness and tang that cuts through both the creamy mayo and the salty spam. I don't even like mayo, and I finished this lot — and an additional saucer.
Kimchi Carnitas Fries: sounds simple and not all that mindblowing. But what we got was street food elevated by a complex layering of flavours. First, well-executed golden shoestring fries. Second, moist, flavourful and succulent carnitas. Then top that all off with spicy tangy kimchi, sour cream, pungent raw onions, hot sauce, and jalapeños. There's a bit of creamy, spicy, tangy, and crunchy all in a single dish! Absolutely fantastic.
Yes lotsa cross-cultural ideas going around here - but don't be mistaken, it's in no way fusion. Modelled after the Canadian Poutine, Chef Sam's Eastie rendition sees chunky fries topped with a Taiwanese-inspired 'Lor Bak' mince, Japanese takuan pickles and bits of egg white. Think of it as lor bak deconstructed and reinterpreted with a poutine-scaffold. Can't say I really got that savoury 魯肉 flavour (the mince was more sweet than savoury), but I love how the different components complemented one another. And by golly those golden chunky fries are mad delicious?!
It may be simply fried sticks of spam; yet this unassuming side was my favourite of the meal. Thick thumb-widthed chunks of spam fried to perfection, boasting a crisp exterior and soft melt-in-your-mouth insides. I've not had spam fries quite like these and must say I polished them off in no time.
I mean that's what I would've called this, if not for the stomach flu later that night which created bad memories for me #conditionedfear 😅 not that the fries aren't still batshitcrazyyummy
Amazing fries, lousy truffle fries 😖 could barely get any hint of truffle. Love the sage, and surprisingly the aioli which was creamy, light, and pleasantly tangy.
Kimchi fries sounded so so amazing, so it was a tad disappointing when it fell below expectations. The first bite was pretty delish, but there was too much sour cream and the whole thing ended up too saucey and soggy. Couldn't taste the kimchi after a while. What a waste.
Crisp fries tossed in a dry mix of salted egg yolk and laksa leaves - need I say more? It's a little dry and not like those saucey salted egg yolk dishes, but I like it that way. Keeps the fries crispy. I could have this all day, err day. So damn awesome.
So so crispy, and just the right amount of soft on the inside. Sweet and savoury, with a crunch in every bite. I know the focus's supposed to be on the burgers and wings, but sorry these babies stole the show.
