Cakes
Tucked away in the basement of sleepy mall The Central, this nondescript shop specialises in just one item â tiramisu â and it also happens to be one of the Burpple community's favourite renditions of the Italian cake! They offer several flavours like dark cherry and pistachio but for special celebrations, go straight for the Classico (from $30 for 500g / $7.20 a slice) â this timeless classic will not fail you. Light, fluffy, aromatic with bittersweet coffee and generous on the KahlĂșa, we also appreciate how they've nailed the ratio between ladyfingers and mascarpone, resulting in a moist (yet not overly so) piece of perfection.

Cream & Custard's pretty-as-a-picture Strawberry Watermelon Cake (from $48 for 500g, $7.80 a slice) is a truly unique dessert. The almond dacquoise layer pairs well with the light-as-air rose-infused cream, while the thick watermelon slice in the middle adds a burst of sweet freshness. It is a medley of flavours that thankfully complements, not competes, with one another. If you're only intending to get a slice for an intimate celebration, come early to snag a piece â we hear each group/ table/ family is only allowed to order three slices! Alternatively, the Lychee Rose Cake (from $48 for 500g, $7.80 a slice) is a crowd pleaser â its delicate lychee mousse is sandwiched between layers of moist rose sponge cake to create the perfect blend of floral and fruity.

Only available at ION Orchard, The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. collaborates with Dulcet & Studio with different tea flavours in Dulcet & Studio's signature cream puffs. Those familiar with Dulcet & Studio's cream puffs will remember it for the crumbly crusted exterior and the generous amount of cream within. This was no different from what we all know about, but the cream was mildly sweet with a light hint of rose â works particularly well for those who likes floral flavours. Will be back very soon to try the Earl Grey variant!
Crepe cakes were of varying standards. The rum and raisin was very dry and stodgy and tasted more like chocolate. The raspberry yogurt was better, light and slightly tart with soft crepe layers.
You can't go wrong with the classic Japanese-style shortcakes here, with Ichigo ($6.50) being the most popular choice. The Mango Rare Cheese ($6.80) is a delightful pick-me-up as well, showcasing a wonderful union of cheese and mango mousse. Aside from their cakes, also try the Luna Wraps ($5.90 each). These soft, fluffy folded sponge cakes sandwich flavoured cream and fresh fruits come in six different flavours including chocolate, matcha and banana and caramel. With their attractive, vibrant cake display, there's no way you're walking out with just one item!
