when you are done with monday's work and you wanna a fast meal, the kinda cooked by oma in seconds, you can count on hoho at sunset. this kimchi fried rice and a sunny side up is high-flavor with a very comforting wetness. count on the kimchi bits in between mouths for that extra crunchingness!
cause polished barley in lovely seafood stock instead of your usual arborio rice. chewy fun texture is real addictive in your mouth with a spoon of rice paired with a chunk of lobster
thanks to burpple and folks at marmalade pantry, we dined at relatively new marmalade pantry at oasia hotel. less the glam and swankiness at ion, but also less the crowd which is good cause tables are available.
boasting new items on their already very extensive menu, the modern bistro never fail to innovate with new interpretations - lobster barley risotto is one.
polished pearl barley grains braised in lobster goodness totally does it for me here. nature of barley gives it a chewy texture and an extra touch of creaminess. to balance off, chewy texture was contrasted with the crunchiness of diced carrots, sweet garlic flowers and onions. topping it off are chunks of lobster meat and a dollop of sour cream to further balance the uber seafood sweetness risotto.
my favorite teochew porridge is finally back under the banner of "kim san leng"! that dollop of steamed minced meat with slice of salted fish is prolly the best part of the meal - a pinch of the savory meat and slurp down the thick warm porridge water. shiok! stirred fry pig liver, long beans, stewed cabbage, piece of steamed minced meat + porridge for 2 all for under $10.
am surely but slowly a fan of risotto now. thinking of one now for this rainy friday
hulk approved pesto risotto from wheeler's yard. but why so little love for awesome plate of vegetarian grub? granted the arborio rice is al dente but bordering tough that day, it lends a lovely texture amidst the molten basil pesto sauce. and so so many button mushrooms! freaking quite divine to me actually!
had enough of cny set lunch so went with a la carte since this is a seafood place after all. this lobster porridge proved my decision was ever so right. perfectly cooked lobsters means firm chunky meat lifted from shell effortlessly and springy to bite. lobster broth needless to say was uber flavorful and one can definitely register that seafood sweet notes that came from the crustacean. two chinese words summed it up - "清甜"
am always more for the porridge water than the "liao". who's with me? kee chiu!
