LWe were served with this big-ass bone marrow which will surely make you worry about your cholesterol πŸ˜… I would have preferred to have the corn and bok choy separated as it toned down the taste of the broth. Nonetheless, a good alt if craving for this Filipino soup dish

✨ Dinakdakan
Charred and chopped pork tossed in calamansi and chili peppers. This dish is usually a side to an ice cold beer back home, but having it as an app/main is fine as well πŸ˜‹ El Mesa’s version is quite decent but serving is a bit small

✨ Isaw
Usually cooked by grilling, but El Mesa’s marinated pork intestines were deep fried. Totally not expecting too much because of this difference, but each bite is actually nice but very sinful - high cholesterol πŸ˜‚

Rmb when you order saba fish from Korean hawker stalls and it looks like a whole fish but it was just a perfect illusion as the other half is removed? It’s totally not the case for this dish as they served one big-ass smoked milkfish. It’s so flavourful and matches really well with the ensalada (mixed tomatoes/onions/mango) on the side

This is one of Pancake House’ specialty, and I would eat this every week if I could (lol rly love milkfish πŸ˜‚)

Similar to ice kachang or maybe even bingsu (but different way of prepping the ice), Halo-halo (β€œhalo” is mix in literal translation) is a crushed ice dessert with loads of toppings. Chowking (PH) is one of the popular fastfood chains offering decent halo-halos

Claiming to have 13 different ingredients, it has always been a joy to dig into it after mixing everything, under the scorching heat. Fave toppings are leche flan (crème caramel custard), sweetened banana, and purple yam

Craved for it on this very hot day 😢😢😢

The noodles were quite a disappointment - it tasted like it has been dredged in lechon oil but close to the bitter side :/

The big platter of veggies, chopsuey, is only PhP 280 (~$7) and is really tasty, and generous with meat toppings

The oyster/scallops/mussels platter (PhP 999, ~$26) is, again, a steal price-wise, but could have worked better with lesser cheese

The crab & shrimp platter (1kg each!) is priced at PhP 2399 (~$63) which is a steal. This is buttered to perfection. Seafood is fresh as well

And just like that, my quick break has ended πŸ₯²

Here’s what welcomed me back home - a feast! (there are only 6 adults devouring this, 2 are elderly and cannot have too much cholesterol-high food, soooo πŸ˜‚)

Ordered the seafood from Dampa sa Cogeo - overall good, highly recommended (we ordered again before I left for SG lol):
* The crab & shrimp platter (1kg each!) is priced at PhP 2399 (~$63) which is a steal. This is buttered to perfection. Seafood is fresh as well
* The oyster/scallops/mussels platter (PhP 999, ~$26) is, again, a steal price-wise, but could have worked better with lesser cheese
* The big platter of veggies, chopsuey, is only PhP 280 (~$7) and is really tasty, and generous with meat toppings
* Shanghai Roll, usually a must on any Filipino parties lol, is at PhP 220 (~$5) for 20 pcs, and just a tad bit dry - gets better on every reheat though

The Pancit Chon (PhP 999, ~$26) and the Cebu Chon (PhP 3152, ~$82) were from Esting’s. The lechon is really good, crispy exterior with very moist meat inside. The noodles were quite a disappointment - it tasted like it has been dredged in lechon oil but close to the bitter side :/

I have had my fair share of discussion/arguments (lol) with my friends on which presentation of sisig is the best - whether served plain (argued to be authentic), with egg, with mayo, et al. But one thing remains the same, it is good, regardless (and it’s a matter of preference lol), esp if you’re craving for hometown food lol.

Don Lechon’s Lechon Sisig ($10 for rice meal), for one, can definitely provide my Filipino food craving fix. Served in a classic hot plate with egg on top (you’re supposed to mix the egg while it’s sizzling - so better be fast as it’s not that long), the chopped meat has the right amount of chewiness from the fats, and crisp from the skin. The oil it is dredged in as well is even flavourful (lechon oil? Lol, there was a few misses before tho wherein it tasted too much of butter/margarine, but I haven’t had that experience on my recent visits) The chopped chilis add to the flavor as well

Max’s is known for their chicken, but I opted for one of their all-day breakfast dishes, Bangsilog ($12.80++).

insert any meat here> + silog is one of the breakfast staples in PH consisting of the chosen meat, fried rice (β€œsi”), and fried egg (β€œlog”). The ordered dish had marinated boneless milkfish (bangus) fried to golden color. I loved the fish, though note that I am super biased with milkfish. I always had it when I was young, but getting it here in SG is quite difficult, specially having it boneless. Garlic fried rice is normal, egg is too dry. Would be happier to have a fluffier scrambled egg and better sliced tomatoes πŸ˜…

Nonetheless, will come back and still order the same (for the love of milkfish)
