Tiong Bahru
Attended a Burpple Eatup recently at Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles at Tiong Bahru Plaza — an eatery serving up beef noodles hailing from Lanzhou with around 300 outlets across China. The menu is simple, offering only four variations of beef noodles while patrons can choose from eight different types of noodles — patrons can also opt for a set at an additional $4 which includes side dish, braised egg and drink. My favourites were the Dry Beef Noodles with Flat Noodles (chewy with a substantial bite; absolutely slurpy — an entire strand of noodle that is fun to eat) which was made better with chili and coriander mixed in, while the Mala Spicy Beef Noodles carried just a comfortable tinge of numbness and spiciness that fits really well for those who are not too accustomed to Mala. We also tried the Signature Beef Noodles; the broth being cooked and reduced from an entire shank with the meat being used for the beef slices within the noodles. Pretty delicious and authentic, with flavours accustomed to the local palate.
Thanks to Tongue Tip Lanzhou Beef Noodles for hosting, and Burpple for the invite!

Tiong Bahru has yet another cafe but this one has pretty awesome food and ambience.
Tarte flambee $24
Angus beef $26
Smoked salmon burger $21
Scrambled eggs $19
The humble looking and seemingly overpriced organic scrambled eggs was actually my favorite item. Truffle taste is evident and Parmesan cheese made it even better! Worth a return visit.
+marinated pear & melted Camembert cheese
💸: $18++
👅💭: 🙂
Mayb the taste is lighter for this dish or i like the ravioli too much. The rilette has paled in comparison. The ducky game is a little strong...the marinated pear was a pleasant addition, adding a little sweetness.

Taking over the former space of The Orange Thimble at Eng Hoon Street is Merci Marcel, a new French cafe that serves up a brunch menu currently with salads, egg dishes and a section dedicated to more filling mains as well as sweets and grains.
Ravioles de Royan are essentially French dumpling pasta that comes with Tête de Moine Cheese filled within — first taste into the dish and I am pleasantly surprised by the harmonious combination of textures and flavour that goes into the entire dish. While there was use of cream in this dish, I am really amazed how the entire combination of cheese and cream was simply not too heavy on the palate here — the proportion of cheese within the pasta creates just enough bite and savouriness while the olive oil helped to counter the heaviness of the cream for a flavour that simply keeps one going on for the entire bowl. The pasta was also done al-dente; not too tough nor brittle — the texture simply on point. An absolutely beautiful dish that achieves a good balance of texture and flavours — really sold, considering how on point the entire dish was at $18.
Was actually pretty happy how the Ravioles de Royan turned out to be that I ordered the Croissant after seeing what the people beside me had ordered. The croissant here are all made in-house using French Butter — it's light, flaky and buttery without feeling in any way greasy; goes very well with the fruit jam that came beside. Wouldn't mind having this at all for leisurely tea break with a cup of coffee on the side.
