While the Toppokki had a texture that was a tad too soft and sticky for me ( i like those really fat and chewy ones haha) the cheese top-up (+$2) was really quite shiok. Was half expecting to be presented with a sad slice of cheese (you'd be surprise at how often i get thatπ) but what came was instead a thick blanket of melted mozzarella that went perfectly with the spicy sauceπ .
A pretty light-tasting dish with barely any other flavour besides that of steamed eggs. I wonder how many eggs went into this, as the portion is generous for sure, with the stone pot being deeper than I thought it was, and the fluffy cloud of steamed egg didn't sink as i thought it wouldπΉ The creamy consistency of the steamed egg was enjoyable, though only in the initial part because it gets cooked more as you leave it in the stone pot (the parts of the dish in contact with the stone pots were entirely charred because we were too slow hahaπ ) .
For when you're craving something warm and comforting , the army stew does the trick, coming with a generous amount of ingredients such as noodles, rice cakes, spam, baked beans etc and also a huge block of cheese. However, perhaps the cheese perhaps muted the flavour of the stew a little, so i thought it would be great if the spice level of the army stew could be adjusted based on individual preferences, as the stew leaned more towards the sweet-sourish side which does nothing but to tickle the tastebuds of spice lovers π .
Dinner tonight ππ super yummy bibimbap and healthy too(?), apparently all their menu bibimbaps are all 500kcal and below, which is hard to believe given that the portion was SO generous!! There were really alot of beef πΉ the beef was juicy and well marinated and tender too!
Each bibimpbap also comes with an assortment of vegetables such as spinach, carrots, onions and beansprouts. I'm not a fan of the thin chinese kind of beansprouts, but they used the gigantic kinds you find often given as a side dish in korea, which tastes so much better than the chinese tau ghey
Comes by default with white rice but i topped up $1 for brown rice. I like their rice, which was moist and fluffy but not mushy
P.S. i like how they gave me my choice of soy garlic sauce on the side in a whole gigantic bottle so that i can control (i.e spam) the amount of sauce that i want π
They had this $12++ set lunch promotion which was available even when i visited on a weekend. Choose from a variety of mains such as seafood stew/spicy pork/chicken and all comes with same set of sides. Its quite value for money in a sense that there's quite a variety, and portion sizes are quite decent and filling too.
However, don't go expecting the best quality π The mackerel was too dry and fishy, egg too dry and dense, and i didn't really liked their kimchi, which was more on the sweeter side. The stew itself was decent-had quite a generous portion of tofu, seafood and other ingredients. Most importantly, it didn't seem MSG ladenπ
I thought it was really interesting that our rice came initially in a wooden pot, from which the staff first scooped out a portion of the purple rice into our bowl, and then poured hot water over the rest. Was told that it was korean tradition to do so, then scoop out the rest of the rice if the first serving portion wasn't enough.
I felt that the authenticity of the restaurant was enhanced by the korean staff but unsure if thats exactly optimal because i had some problem communicating our needs to the staffπ
The noodles were a little too soft for my liking though, would've preferred them with more of a bite.

While the combination seemed like an odd one, I half-expected it to be like the honey butter chicken and such that I so adore, but alas, this combination was one that my tastebuds simply could not agree with. After one or two, my tastebuds were begging me to stop π

(Okay i don't really eat jjajangmyeon that often but stillπ) Loved the sweet, flavourful sauce, not too starchy and that generosity with the onions? Totally right up my alley. My breath probably stank like mad after that but no regretsπ They use tiny pieces of minced meat in their sauce, unlike some places with larger chunks of meat, by the way. Theres also the option for upsized bowl at +$2 but don't worry I reckon the portion's hearty enough for most or even those with bigger appetites, especially with the banchans!

There are a total of 9 different Ppongs to choose from.
Ordered the Cha Ppong ($15.80) and Vongole Ppong ($16.80)
The type of noodles used is jjolmyeon (wheat noodles), which has a really springy and chewy texture which i really likedπππ» Oh and can i just say that their banchan is free flow and seriously addictive??πΉ Each bowl was filled generously with ingredients such as cabbage, mussels, cockels , squid, prawns, and quail eggs. -Cha Ppong-
There was the option to choose either level 1 or 2 of spiciness and i chose the former because..spice tolerance low πΉ But don't belittle level 1 because it is already quite spicy π° But i loved the sweet-spicy broth, damn flavourful and addictive i swear. Finished everything albeit after several napkins because my nose was running from the spice haha π
π
Those who can take spice, go ahead and order the level 2 and tell me what you think!π -Vongole Ppong-
I would think that the base for this Ppong would be more suitable for those with a lighter palate and prefer milder tastes as whilst it is still flavourful, it is less strong and not at all overpowering. Said to be cooked with white wine but don't let that deter you from ordering this if you happen to abhor alcohol because i couldn't really taste any hint of alcohol haha. βΌοΈTip: For 1-for-1 ppongs, flash the exclusive promotion on the burpple app when ordering (5th picture) π

Tried the Bacon Dog ($2.80)- Not too pricey and of substantial size, can be quite filling.
While i enjoyed this deep-fried fishcake with bacon, i did not feel that there was anything special about it.
That being said, wouldn't mind trying the other fishcake variations though. However, Would i travel all the way just to get it? Perhaps not π

Diners are able to choose from Udon, Glass noodles or Korean yellow noodles.
Went for the glass noodles option as i prefer my noodles to have a chewier bite to them π¬
This was actually my first time trying jjajangmyeon so i did not really know what to expect. Overall, I felt that the dish had a fairly good sauce to noodle ratio and i enjoyed the black bean paste, which was sweet with a mild hint of saltiness.
Am not usually a fan of pork and animal fat in generalπΉ However, the layers of fat melted the instant i placed it in my mouth and i actually found myself enjoying it a little.
I think it really depends on your luck though, because i did have some pieces of meat which were tough and hard to bite.π We also ordered the spicy tteokbokki, add cheese ($7.90+$1.90) and the kimchi dumplings ($7.90). I think you could skip these side dishes though. The portion of tteokbokki was rather sad and so was the amount of cheese given. For that price point, i was seriously expecting something more. The dumplings were one of the largest i've had but they were a tad too oily. π
