Finally tried this place out after walking past it like a million times (okay I’m exaggerating obviously haha but u get it).
It was rather quiet and there was only one other table of patrons. Didn’t get my hopes up too high but was kind of pleasantly surprised. Yes, there are better skewer places/ Japanese restaurants around, but the food here was actually not bad. Ironically though, the item I liked most is not from the skewers section of the menu. My favourite was the sliced Iberico pork with truffle sauce ($12). Honestly I could hardly taste the truffle but I felt that the pork slices were well marinated and tender, and it was a rather enjoyable dish overall. The skewers was decent, and I quite liked the shiitake bacon maki with cheese ($2.90/stick), but well I like anything with mushrooms😝We also had the asparagus with bacon makiand buta bara (pork belly with onion) (both $2.90/stick) and kawa (chicken skin) ($2.20/stick). The yakimeshi unagi (fried rice with unagi) ($10) was also pretty decent. Though I wish there were more unagi pieces, what can I expect for $10 right?? Didn’t order any drinks cos I was trying to abstain from alcohol, but might have been more tempted if I had gone there earlier. Apparently they have $5 drinks at 5pm, and the prices increase by the hour. Sign me up for happy hour drinks anytime🍻

Situated right at a corner of the first floor of the Shoppes at MBS, the queue at this place seems to be perpetually long.
Black Tap is a burger joint that started in NYC, famous for its burgers, craft beers and (literally) over-the-top milkshakes.
So if you are looking for succulent beef patties with even juicier onion rings, then this is probably the place to go.
If you just want to try one of the giant onion rings, the Texan Burger is a great option to start with.
While the serving size is generous, the food here is relatively pricey.

What we had (prices before GST and service charges):
Texan Burger: $25
Pizza Burger (substitute fries with onion rings): $24 + $3
Old Fashion Burger: $22
Tokyo Lemonade: $21
Black Tap Mule: $21
Old Stout: $16

While Fat Chap seems like a great place for drinks (they have happy hour beer at $8++, and you can people-watch at the open area of the restaurant), we decided to go alcohol-free for dinner yesterday.
Both of us agreed that the best dish was easily the angel hair spaghetti. The crunchy tiny ebi went well with the savoury shoyu taste of the spaghetti.
The shiitake was my favourite among the skewers, although bacon and mushroom never goes wrong either.
This place serves reasonably priced bar food, which I reckon, will be a great complement to after-work drinks.

PS: Still not a fan of chicken skin though, although B likes it.

Sakura Ebi Angel Hair - $23
Skewers - $18 + $1
(Shiitake / Pork Belly / Beef / Tiger Prawn +$1 / Bacon-wrapped Oyster Mushroom / Chicken Satay)
Chicken Skin (with sweet plum chilli dip) - $8
Cranberry Juice - $4

Throwback to 11 May when we finally made it to Atlas after making a reservation one month in advance (yes u heard right). The place is really too pretty to resist. P had the Palace of Nations (speyside single malt whiskey, cognac, banana liquer, sweet port) while I had the Invisible Gin (Hendricks’ Gin, ginger, pineapple, lemon, gentian, burlesque bitters, sofa), which was created for the Cocktail Fest. I preferred his drink actually, as mine felt a little too gingery. The truffle pasta and octopus were not bad, but a little pricey, and I guess for Italian and Spanish food, they are better speciality restaurants out there. The ambience is unbeatable though. Definitely no regrets going (but will remember to charge my camera before going next time; iPhone’s Low light photography ability is really terrible).
