The pizza crust has the consistency of flat bread, which is delightful when piping hot but rather hard when cooled. Carne ($28++) had a delightful mix of Italian sausage, salami, pork and beef - was impressed that the pizza wasnβt greasy despite the rich flavours!
Sideways is a small joint with a cosy, low-light ambience perfect for a midweek night out. The lamb & feta pizza ($28+) far exceeded my expectations! The dough is chewy and piquant, with a beautiful char along its edges from the wood fire. The lamb is infused with flavour after hours of slow cooking and balanced by the sharp feta. I hardly ever order lamb, but their rendition was extremely well done and I look forward to returning for their lamb cutlets!
Linoβs burrata pizza ($26++) was a winner from the very first bite! The crust is light, crispy on the outside and wonderfully chewy on the inside. It does get a little soggy if you let it sit too long, but this is easily one of the best pizza doughs Iβve had. The burrata is mild and creamy, accented with savoury pesto and sweet tomatoes. Would happily return for this!
The truffle portobello mushroom pizza ($25.60+) remains my favourite of the options available. The crust is thin but has a good bite, and the truffle aroma is sufficiently evident. Would have appreciated more toppings!
Dining at Madrinaa was a rather underwhelming experience - I had high expectations for it. The Ischia pizza ($28++) was generous with its toppings: one piece of Parma ham per slice and a generous heap of rucola, but the base was too thin and a tad dry - none of the satisfying crunch youβd expect from a thin-crust, and none of the cheesy goodness youβd expect from pizza. The price is a bit more palatable with BBβs 1 for 1 but there are better options out there!
Opted to try something different with their specialty hand rolled pizza! The roasted garlic and ricotta cheese darla ($16, 10β) features a creamy white sauce for its base. Whilst I could have done without the alfalfa sprouts, I loved the contrast of savoury cheese against the bitter rocket! The garlic was a fragrant addition, but not evident until you bite into a piece.
You wonβt get the best quality of ingredients here, but Yellow Cab does a really good dirty pizza that will satisfy your cravings! The NYC pepperoni ($17, 10β) is layered with tomato sauce and cheese, topped with a generous portion of savoury meat. The crust is on a thinner side but has a great bite!
Feels like their portions have shrunk a fair bit?? π’ I remembered their pizzas spilling over the pan previously. Am quite a regular patron at The Coffee Academics but their standards seem to be falling. I used to be a big fan of the pizzas here! The pizza base is still good, with a slather of tomato sauce and rich cheese. This 3 Meats pizza ($24++), however, disappointed in terms of toppings - there is little variety and the portion is measly.
Hopheads is definitely better known for its drinks and games - its menu tries to achieve much, but is priced high and falls a little flat. The meat lovers ($21.90++) features a tomato base topped with pepperoni and sausages, while the garlic seafood ($23.90++) has an olive oil base with shrimp & squid. They were pretty good in terms of flavour, but you probably wonβt want to leave them out for too long while playing games! The crust gets really hard.
Cicheti is well known for its wood fire oven, which sits in a corner of the cosy establishment. We ordered the prosciutto e rucola ($28++), which seemed like a popular choice! The pizza base was delightfully crisp at the edges and chewy on the inside, topped with a layer of tomato and fior di latte. The parma ham was well seasoned and complemented by the arugula. This is easily one of the best weβve had!
Chose this ($24++) after reading the many reviews online, and our serverβs recommendation! A chewy base is topped by interesting ingredients like squid, prawns, clams, quail egg and fish cake. The laksa sauce tasted like it, but lacked the depth of flavour or the spicy kick.
Stumbled upon this eatery whilst in the area! Was adventurous and decided to try their Pizza de Grancio ($14.90) - itβs topped with crabmeat and spicy pink sauce with brandy. The sauce was thick but leaned towards the sweet side, and the brandy was barely discernible. But the peppercorns used added a bit of heat and variation! The portion of (real!!) crab meat was super generous and the mozzarella was tied everything together nicely. Service was rather slow for a weekday but I was surprised by the quality of the food and will definitely be back for more!
