pasta
bacon carbonara // $15
spicy mushroom aglio olio // $14
french toast // $15
i love how one man coffee allows you to use burpple beyond for online delivery as not many places have such an option. to make things better, delivery is free once your order hits $30.
the carbonara exceeded my expectations as the onsen egg somehow managed to remain runny and there was just a right amount of creaminess without being cloying.
i wasn’t a fan of the spicy mushroom aglio olio as it was a tad too spicy for me. thankfully, it had a generous amount of mushrooms and the noodles were al dente.
while it was a pity that the french toast could not be presented prettily on a plate, i like how the quality is not compromised at all. the caramel sauce had a tinge of saltiness, which made the dish stand out from the typical cafe toast ! they did their best to package it nicely, even going as far as to separate the caramel sauce.
salmon pesto pasta // $10
while it wasn’t exceptional, i thoroughly enjoyed this lovely plate of pasta. the sauce went really well with the salmon. despite its wallet friendly price, sun ray does not skimp at all as the portion was rather sizable, i was pleasantly surprised by the size of the salmon - it was well cooked and was not too dry !
they serve sky juice for free, like most of its counterparts but you can always choose to go for their drinks which are priced at as low as $2. i was told that their coffee is good but i’m not quite a fan of coffee to begin with so try at your own discretion jokes i am sure their coffee is as lovely as their sky juice kek
while the food quality can be inconsistent at times and they tend to change their menu frequently, sun ray is still a place that is close to my heart for nothing beats their cozy ambience and affordable prices.
foie gras truffle yakinuku // $19.90
this dish delivers what it promises, a generous serving of beef drenched with truffle soya sauce resting on a bed of Tanuki Raw’s signature rice. the truffle flavor is prominent and the beef is tender, making this dish rather enjoyable. this is without doubt my favorite dish there
however, they somehow misheard my order and forgot about the star of the show but all’s well that ends well because they ended up serving my fois gras on saucer and it was still so good. the thick slab of foie gras truly made the meal more decadent and sinful.
to complete your meal, you can top up $2 for the set that includes a bowl of miso soup, a salad and a cup of hot green tea. alternatively, you can be like me and help yourself to water that’s available on every table
it was really quiet on a weekday morning but i luv the super chill vibes ~~~~ it’s located at the national design center, so you can explore the place with your friends after a hearty meal
