Mariners’ Corner is one of the few places that serves traditional English bakes nowadays. Also available for purchase, their bakes are the type of pound cakes which are heavily buttered like this mixed fruit cake. Dense and oily, the butter aroma and taste are really strong but that’s also what gives the moist texture of the cake. Custard sauce was poured over the cake when served. I was a little worried that it would be too sweet but it wasn’t. Instead a little milky and went well with the cake, although sticky.

I always love coming to Mariners’ Corner for its cozy ambience and it’s old-school decoration which gives a homely feeling, a place to enjoy traditional western food. Therefore I was really looking forward to their Christmas menu.

Disappointingly, it fell short of expectations. The traditional roast turkey was nicely done, lightly flavored though the meat was naturally more chewy and dry. However, the honey baked turkey ham was a turned off. It was thick, starchy and plasticky, as if it was artificially made. Thankfully the chestnut stuffing was fine. A little animalic overall which was expected from the giblet sauce. I wished they had bothered changing the side dish for different main courses.

soOooOoo worth it omg all these goodness for $32?!??!?! everything was cooked so well, decently soft and chewy and went so well w the sauce. best part was the service!!! this guy was so friendly!! he offered us more cakes when he heard that i was still hungry haha and he shared w us his army story. and he's rly attentive to all the customers!! he heard this other customer coughing and asked if she was okay. such homely feels :')
