Come lunchtime, those working nearby flock to this coffee shop for cheap and good hawker meals. Skip the usual suspects and give the not-so-common Mee Jawa (RM7) a try. The flavour-packed dish sees a generous helping of yellow noodles in sweet and slightly spicy thick gravy, topped with crunchy fritters and a dollop of sambal. Regulars will also point you to the Ayam Kunyit (RM6) — deep-fried chicken cubes, long beans and fried egg on a bed of rice. Finished with kicap manis drizzle and fiery chilli sauce on the side, this makes one simple, satisfying favourite.

Nice find at this unassuming hawker! The diced turmeric chicken is crisp and fragrant, finished with that savoury soy drizzle. The dish also comes with that killer bright-orange chilli sauce.

From the stall manned by a lone uncle in the back, this Mee Jawa exceeds expectations with clean, spicy flavours. Despite not being a fan of mee jawa, I found myself really enjoying this one for the creamy broth and crispy fritters. That dash of chilli sauce has kick too!

Another must-have here is this mee Jawa – think springy yellow mee sitting in a sweet and thick broth, topped with crunchy fried vegetables and a fiery sambal. Mix evenly for good flavour measure!

If ever in the area and looking for something quick and yummy to eat, go for this. The ayam kunyit is freshly fried and looking at how much they cook at one go, you know a huge crowd comes for it. They don’t hold back on the chilli either; super sharp with a strong kick, but a spoonful of white rice with kicap manis will help tone the heat down.
