Restoran Todak was bustling on the last day of the year and we enjoyed the chili crab (RM 126 for about 900g, which is about $40 sgd, pretty worth it). The chili crab is more tangy sweet than spicy. Still we like how fresh it is, and how it comes with the shells cracked already, so it's easy to just bite into the meat.
+ The sea view of the North side of Singapore is good. V memorable night here just chatting with the sea breeze.
We enjoyed the horfun here a lot too. Ps this is about 20 mins cab ride from mt Austin
Crossing the bridge just for a meal at this massive seafood restaurant might sound like a radical idea, but the Burpple community assures it’s worth it. This restaurant is located near a local fish farm, so look forward to produce at its freshest. Crabs (from RM5 per 100g) are a must-order, especially the thick and eggy chilli sauce or spicy black pepper. Don’t stop there! Share some Butter Squid (from RM15), Curry Prawns (from RM10 per 100g) and Steamed Fish (MP) too. Dinner service gets a bit crazy here, so take Burppler’s Dex Neo’s advice and drop by for before 6pm to beat the crowd.
*Grab from City Square, ~SGD13, ~17-min ride

When we first got to the restaurant there were NO MORE CRABS :( but somehow we stayed there long enough and tried our luck again, seemed like they had an extra crab from their reservations stash and we got it!! It’s damn cheap and meaty, very worth it.
Favourite dish here, addictive bites of butter squid. The curry prawn was not bad but too spicy.
Took a grab here all for the name of cheap seafood. Here we ordered blindly and hoped everything was cheap (it really was! In the end it was about $15 per pax I think, and that’s including crab). Came really early for dinner so it wasn’t crowded, but it filled up soon after and we were surrounded by people eyeing our table...
The food is good and cheap, but beware the longkang smell here :( maybe not so bad if you sit indoors?
Super busy and crowded seafood restaurant! Had to wait around for seats. Recommend taking a cab out here as well. Chilli crab was very fresh
The thick sauce filled with flavour and egg, especially with matou bao😍😍, the amount of meat in the crab was filling ~ I just couldn’t forget about it . Will come back soon~
Our JB adventures brought us to Restoran todak, a seafood restaurant in JB that is situated in a kelong. It is about a 30 minute drive from the checkpoint (about 17-23 rm if you grab there).
The seafood was cheap. BUT, don’t expect to be treated like royalty! Getting a table was crazy and hawker centre style, we had to camp and hover around tables that were finishing up. Getting the waiter’s attention was also a challenge, and half the time they couldn’t be bothered to serve you. We had to physically get up from our seat and call the waiter over. There are also no menus so... good luck ordering! Our chilli crab took about 45 minutes to arrive and we were exhausted after the meal from looking for a table and waiting for the food.
If you are bored of the regular haunts at in JB, do hop over to todak for a real experience of Malaysian dining!
Todak seafood has a total belly score of 2.5/5
Cheap and fresh seafood! They rear their own farm right beside the restaurant. So you can definitely have them fresh out of the waters!
It takes 30 minutes car ride from the checkpoint, easy enough to get a taxi or just grab over to the location. We were also able to get a grab out back to JB Sentral.
Another plus point is that it’s so near to Singapore that you can receive Singapore’s mobile provider and have data! :)
We had 700g of Crabs, 600g Fish, Clams, Vegetables, Man Tous for about SGD40!
A bumpy taxi ride to a remote area along the coast of Malaysia brought us to Restoran Todak, a place my friends have been raving about for quite some time.
Known for its fresh seafood and crabs, the place is packed with Malaysians and Singaporeans alike so it's best to come before 6pm unless you want to stand around waiting for a seat.
We had the whole shebang of crabs and fish but this one dish stood out for its fragrant coconutty broth, the Indonesian Prawns. Fresh prawns simmered in this amazing spiced up coconut broth had us lapping up all the juices with the giant fried bread rolls and pouring it all over our rice. Good stuff cannot bluff, totally worth the trip just for this 😍
If you're looking for some awesome seafood, take a drive down JB east coast highway to head to 'Kelong'. Slightly out of the way but extremely worth it. The prices here will blow you mind; 2 crabs, 1 portion of cockles, 1 black Hokkien Mee, 1 Ee Mian for 212 RM. Crabs are going from at 5 RM/kg. The 'Kelong' also boasts a great rustic sea view. Oh, and you'd be able to get SG phone network service from here.
Because the owner of this place also owned nearby fish farms, they resulted having the freshest fish at a very affordable price.
Remember to go by 6pm if you want the sunset view and avoid large crowd.

Drove in to JB after checking that customs' clear.
Our 2nd visit to Restoran Todak. After some hiccups (due to Google Maps), we finally reached.
This time around, bigger crabs are available. And they are meaty and fresh! Love them! Accompanied by the fried mantou dipped in chilli crab sauce, this is the star of our meal. At RM135 for 1 crab, worth it I think.
We ordered garlic scallops, oatmeal crayfish and butter crayfish too. Nothing spectacular though.
But we left the place with satisfied tummies.
