Like any Thai eatery, Soi 19 serves Thai milk tea except that they put a spin on it by serving it with tapioca pearls! The Thai milk tea was great and the taste of the black tea was fairly strong, even as you can taste slight hints of cardamom which gives the tea it's chai flavouring. However, we felt that the price tag of $5 was a little steep given that the cup wasn't very big in the first place, and the serving of pearls was honestly a little miserable.

It's a nice drink to get if you are thirsty, but there are many cheaper Thai iced milk teas outside!

Soi 19 seems to be one of the more famous supper spots along Upper Thomson, as the stall gets pretty crowded after 10 pm when other eateries have shut their doors! We were there at 10 pm on a weekend night and it got increasingly crowded as the night passed, and for good reason - the stall serves a cheap and yummy bowl of wanton mee!

The noodles were very QQ (springy) and they were not overly soggy, which we really enjoyed! Furthermore, the noodles were pretty flavourful as they were coated in a generous serving of shallot and sesame oil! There were quite a lot of ingredients as well - fried wanton, char siew and fried Thai fishcakes, which complemented the noodles pretty well!

The picture shows the large portion, which comes with more noodles and ingredients! Honestly, for the serving size, the price of $5.50 is quite a steal! 😁

It was an enjoyable bowl of wanton mee with a generous serving of pork lard. Lard fans - you will love this

Most people order the dry version, but I prefer my wanton noodles with soup. This wasn’t the Hong Kong type of wanton noodles with a light clear soup. Instead it had a very strong tasting, aromatic and salty soup that was not to my liking. I liked the springy QQ noodles, but the wantons were hard and the char siew was dry.

Many thanks to a friend for introducing this to me, just tasting the noodles alone I’m sure I’ll be back again cause its really yummy!!

Here’s why:
✔️ Springy noodles, easily separated upon stirring 🍜
✔️ Flavour on the noodles evenly coated although there wasn’t any sauce. Big plus point!! 💯
✔️ Superb price points

Wanton mee comes in Regular, Large & Jumbo size. Shown here the bowl in white is Regular, the black bowl Jumbo. It’s the original version, there’s also black sauce version.

Every bowl comes with fried wanton, char siew, sweet thai pork sausage and the greens.

Ordered a separate plate of savoury pork sauce and I wasn’t enjoying it as much after I’ve eaten the noodles because the ones in the noodle are sweet!

Only downside is service here can be much better, its rude when the staff ignores or isn’t helpful when it comes to collecting our order.

A nice Thai style wanton mee (regular) size is SGD4.50. Noodle is super Q with some tasty oil sauce and some crispy pork lard, char siew and 1 fried wanton. I would recommend to order the fried prawn dumplings at SGD5 with 5 in a plate. The fried prawn dumplings are filled with generous fillings and bits of prawn.

Would recommend to eat at the Thomson branch as it is air-conditioned and clean.
