Various Dim Sum (RM 19) is one of affordable dim sum at Penang (Malaysia) and it's worth for group of friends to share with. Exclude Chinese Sticky Rice and Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun (Liu Sha Bao)
I felt Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun (Liu Sha Bao) Sauce was quite salty and thick texture. I felt that Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun (Liu Sha Bao) have a bit thicker and stronger salty taste compared to Singapore.
Chinese Sticky Rice consisted of chinese mushroom, diced chinese sausage and marinated diced chicken. The sticky rice is quite savoury but fillings was quite full.
I felt Chee Cheong Fun (char siew)'s Sweet Sauce was quite having thin texture and fried onion was quite crispy taste.
Minced Fishcake with Fried Noodles I realised that the minced fishcake was quite crunchy and fried noodles was quite crispy and crunchy.
Tofu With Minced Pork I realised that their minced pork was quite crunchy but fried tofu was quite smooth texture.
I realised that their handmade seaweed chicken consisted of mixed vegetables and diced chicken. The outer skin was quite crispy but fillings was quite full and crunchy.
I realised that their outer skin was quite crispy and crunchy but inner skin was quite soft texture.
I realised that their pastry crust was quite crispy and flaky but egg custard was quite soft texture and melt inside the mouth.
Didn't eat this (cos we just had dinner at Hon Kei Pork Porridge at Jalan Malabar) but couldn't resist recording it for posterity, as Tai Tong is one of the Yum Cha stalwarts here in Penang.
Perks of travelling in Malaysia? Cheap and good food! These were so affordable yet tasted amazing! The yellow liu sha paos were really delicious. The chicken feet (not captured) were the best we’ve ever had :o
Morning dim sum was a massive, messy affair - we ate a lot more than what was pictured, but paid a lot lesser than what would’ve been expected back home.
But first you have to put up with the never-ending crowd, small space and a seemingly grumpy service staff (just be patient, they’re considerably efficient la). Must orders to me would definitely be the lo mai kai, very flavorful with loads of liao, silky smooth ccf with pretty good chilli and the crisp yam puff that encases sweet char siew. I’m very picky about Siew mai but the ones here weren’t porky; skin of har-kao however was a tad too thick for my liking and I seem to have outgrown my past love for custard bun.
Food here was much better in general than back home and variety was great.

Georgetown is my choice of stay in Penang and this dim sum place is one of my favorite dim sum eateries. Old school styled of serving dim sum on trolleys with steamer greet you as you enter the restaurant. Piping hot dim sum is served immediately upon your order. Simply yummy yummy yum yum. This is steamed as it's served to you. The elderly lady pushes a cart with gas tank with stove steaming all food items to serve you.
