Tenjin

105 Wishlisted
~$20/pax
Tenjin, a name inspired by the much-loved Japanese tendon dish, is a smart-casual Japanese restaurant under the Les Amis Group that specialises in Tempura Donburi. Situated on the third floor of Shaw Centre, along Scotts Road, Tenjin specialises in serving up satisfying bowls of tempura donburi (also known as tendon), where generous pieces of seafood and vegetable tempura are served atop a bed of fluffy Hoshi-Jirushi rice from the Ibaraki prefecture. Tendon is widely known as an accessible and well-loved Japanese dish, and the concept’s design pays homage to this with its minimalist interiors. Raw concrete walls give the place a clean and chic vibe, softened with the warm glow of bamboo pendant lights that add a cosy touch.

I tried the Premium set which includes miso soup and salad. The set comes with anago, crab leg, prawns, vegetables, and egg. You can choose between spicy and non-spicy sauce for your set. I like the way how all the items were fried to perfection and flavourful. But do take note that everyone have to order a set each and no sharing is allowed!

Leveling up from Jo ($14.80), you’ll find additional premium tempura items here like anago, crab leg and fish. I’d recommend to go for the regular tare for a well balanced sweetness and savouriness, as the spicy one could do with a better punch. As with the other bowls, every piece of tempura was done exceptionally well! Though my favourite carb is still the inaniwa udon, their rice was good and fluffy.

Thank you @tenjinsg for having us and @burpple for the kind invite! ✨

The Tempura Moriwase comes with assorted tempura, tentsuyu, kyabetsu salad, miso soup and rice. If you’re looking for something more affordable, they have the Jo ($14.80), which already works superbly well without the additional premium ingredients. Really good with fresh, lightly battered and crispy pieces.

Lots of tempura in the market but it take Les Amis to do it right. Light, fluffy and correct portioning make this an utterly enjoyable meal.

At $14.80 with soup and salad, what else can you ask for? 😉

This is one of the best tendon equivalents I've had in Singapore. I say tendon equivalents because its effectively tendon with the option to switch rice to udon. Bonus points for the deliciously juicy crab leg and fresh prawns. The inaniwa udon delivers a refreshing break from the oiliness of the tempura and its done to the perfect chewable texture, not too mushy or too hard. Still one of my go to places.

This is a real value find and I'd happily polish off more portions except the sets are so huge. The truffle bits are generous and and the steamed egg is silky smooth. Mushroom chunks scattered throughout provide a nice bite and prevent the dish from being boring. At 3.80, this is a must try!
