Having seen the long queues for months and some raving reviews from my friends, I decided to give it a try with some prompting.

This outlet is located in Jewel, Changi Airport. We ordered the Charcoal Grilled Seabass with Lemongrass, Steam Pot Chicken Soup, Poached Seafood Rice in Prawn Broth and Stir Fried Green Dragon Vegetable/ Chives.

The overall taste was mediocre and did not quite meet my initial expectations, considering the popularity, reviews and price. The chicken soup tasted decent but is something that I can get at any other chinese restaurants. As for the poached seafood rice in prawn broth, out of the 4 of us, none of us could taste any bit of prawns, despite its orangey outlook. Moving on to the vegetable, the portion was small and was tough to chew. Lastly, the grilled seabass with lemon grass was underwhelming as it had almost no traces of lemon grass as we tasted it and was under grilled. Hence, the spices overtook the taste and it was not quite pleasant.

Overall, I would say that the balance of taste isn’t there and did not much up to traditional Yun Nan dishes. It might be a case of inconsistency, I don’t know but it’s not a place that I will return to, unless someone would like my company at the same place.

Both brands are collaborating for the first time ever to present specially curated set menus for 2, 4 and 6 pax that showcase unique pairings of Yunnan classics and Ipoh dim sum offerings.

Pictured is the 4 pax set ($88, U.P. $96.60) which comes with four dishes from YUN NANS and two sets of pastries from Nam Heong. The Century Egg with Grilled Capsicum is a good appetizer to the meal before you chomp down on the Braised Truffle Ee-Fu Noodles with the accompanying dishes of Stir-Fried Pork Collar with Scallions and Braised Egg Beancurd with Cordycep Flowers and Fish Maw. The restaurant actually imports in several premium ingredients such as the wild black truffle and edible flowers directly from the Yunnan province into Singapore. From Nam Heong, you will be getting their Salted Egg Custard Buns and Ipoh Kaya Puffs for a nice ending to the meal. To wash down all the food, the set menu comes with four bottles of Raspberry Juice with Tamarind for that additional vitamin boost.

Had a feast at Yun Nans the other day and we absolutely love love love this restaurant😍!! Loved most of the dishes we ordered but if we have to pick our favourites, it would have to be the wild porcini mushrooms w dried chillies🍄 and grilled seabass w lemongrass🐟. The mushroom dish may look simple, but definitely a complex dish in terms of flavour. Mushrooms and garlic chips were sliced thinly and fried, which gives it a soft, chewy but crispy texture. The dried chillies also gave a good spice and fragrance to the dish🌶️. Similarly for the grilled seabass, the spices used also made the dish slightly spicy and super fragrant, crispy on the outside but the flesh remaining soft on the inside. Have to commend Yun Nans for their seasoning as we felt that the spice was at a very palatable level, slight spicy and numbing but not too overpowering!🤤

We feel that Yun Nans has managed to set itself apart from the other chinese restaurants in Singapore with its variety of dishes, thus definitely worth a try👏👏👏

This was delicious, and a highlight of our meal.
.
The chicken is steamed in Jianshui pots (which have a hollow chimney tube in the middle), along with salt and pepper, in another pot filled with water.
.
As it steams over 4 hours, the condensation of the steam forms the soup, and renders the chicken tender and flavourful.
.
Here, they've added a luxurious touch with spongy fish maw, bouncy matsutake mushrooms, and Chinese herbs.
.
The dish has robust sweet savoury herbal earthy spice flavour, and is so yummy.

This features a large, fresh whole red grouper fish, steamed with Sichuan / Szechuan mala peppercorn, ginger, light soy sauce, and spring onions.
.
The fish is meaty, tender, flaky, and moist, with bright natural sweet savoury flavour.
.
The gravy lends a bold salty herbal spice note with a slight kick, and is tasty enough to cause you to reach for more.
