It's ok to serve classic hawker food at a premium as long as it's done well. But this place isn't, it tries to get creative with hawker food and I ended up with two successive disappointments.
🔸
Last night I posted about their prime ribs bak kut teh which isn't bak kut teh. To satisfy my hawker food craving, I left that plate largely untouched and wanted to order something else under "Asian Plates" section on the menu, and set my eyes on their chicken rice. I can't afford another mistake, because there's no way I should order a 3rd main course just because the first two wasn't what I wanted.
🔸
So I asked the waiter, "Is this dish here really the Singapore chicken rice at hawker centres? Because I ordered bak kut teh which isn't bak kut teh, so I just wanted to be sure". Then the waiter said it is really the chicken rice.
🔸
Then came this, with chicken that isn't the poached hainanese white chicken, and isn't the usual Singapore roast chicken at hawker centres. I should have known, the dish name is "Rotisserie Chicken", so that's not an Asian-style chicken. I wished I spotted it earlier, and that the waiter had been clearer when I asked.
🔸
So this concludes my first and last visit to 15 Stamford. It's an example of how a $3 plate would have satisfied me, when $85 spent here couldn't.

Imagine my disappointment when I was trying to satisfy my hawker food craving at 15 Stamford by Alvin Leong at Capitol Kempinski, and this came when I thought I ordered bak kut teh listed under "Asian Plates". And there was no mistake, this is their bak kut teh, which is prime ribs in Angelica barbecue sauce.
🔸
My price to pay for not being in touch with food social media postings, cos this place would have been heavily reviewed by food influencers, so I should have known this isn't anything like the bak kut teh I've known all my life.

But what took my breath away was the dessert room. What a beauty! All the desserts big or small were gorgeous, some of it is really tasty, and the mango pandan cake is a must try.
The beauty is fitting because the location itself is just stunning.
It’s at $148 for the buffet, and you add $20 for free flow of alcohol.

So this is the king prawn my friend ordered. It was cooked in a Thai liked sauce. Pretty appetizing but okay... won’t order again.

I was so glad I chose this for my main because it’s so good! You do not have to use knife at all and the meat was infused with the marinations that is so flavorful. But I wished it was less sweet for my tastebud. 8.5/10!

[EDIT] After posting, I saw other reviews and realized my portion is the smallest! Was I shortchanged? Tsk. 😡

This is the Hokkaido scallop in adobo butter. I love how it was perfectly cooked and that sauce that goes along it. So much umami!
