The environment was cooling, good for having steamboat. Even though there was a top up of $10 for soup base, it's worth it as the portion is huge. Will definitely come back again!
Fried Thai style crab dong fen. $15 for small, extremely good with heavy garlic and pepper flavours.
First meal of 2015 a smashing one. ☺️
This creative take on coffee is fabulous. Two shots of espresso are served separately alongside the big mug (upcycled from an old Absolut Vodka bottle) of creamy avocado ice-blend. To drink, you just pour the coffee in, stir it and suck. I did mine in two stages to stagger the caffeine kick. Alternatively, you can scoop the avocado ice-blend and pop it into the espresso for a swifter and more potent rush.
AEIOU Life (they position themselves as being more than a cafe) is located at 111 King George's Avenue. Opening hours are 10am to 10pm and they are closed on Mondays.
Artistically plated, I thought this uniquely flavoured tart with its light custard filling and interesting micro-crunchiness from the figs, very enjoyable. There's only a gentle hint of lavender, so you won't feel like you are munching on potpourri.
Wonder how much cream they use to make this ultra-moist cupcake (it's crowned with shaved coconut on silky cream cheese). I could use some of this sugar right now.
FIX, a brand new cafe opened by the people behind GRUB, brings you the naanwich. These signature naan/sandwich fusions come with a variety of fillings like chicken tikka, smoked turkey ham & cheese, and even beef & kimchi, all nicely wrapped in soft naan and served with a side of cheesy nachos. Be sure to try their range of desserts, which are all made in-house. Located at HomeTeamNS @ Balestier, you'll even get to enjoy good food with a poolside view. Not too shabby.
A hidden gem with a loyal following, Cacio e Pepe serves good quality Italian food minus the pretense. Enjoy a lovely meal with your date in this cosy neighborhood joint, without having to venture into the crowds. Start with the portobellos, and try either the tagliatelle with scallop in truffle cream sauce, or the squid ink risotto. While pasta may not seem deserving of a $20+ price tag, these are very good, and are more worth it than the pizzas here. Finish off with the oozing chocolate lava cake, and leave this gem with a smile on your face.
Out of the 8 desserts, my favorite choice is the Banana Salted Peanut Brittle Tart. Crisp short pastry forms the base of the banana custard, and filled with creamy banana creme patisserie. The lightly salted peanut brittle atop provides a good textural contrast, which reminds me a little of honeycomb that I used to eat when I was a kid. Simply decadent love it!
Decent food with cosy outdoor seats that caters to dogs and their owners :)
Feels great to have such good, fresh and not so expensive jap food without q-ing for once!
You will always know when the chef really loves food. So much flavour in the lil scones just off the oven.Thumbs up to this ulu cafe.
