Got to try Poppy Pops’ gelato thanks to a dear friend who sent these pints over! They have fun flavours that rotate monthly, with new additions each time - a few from this month of May are Thai Milk Tea Coconut Fudge, Truffle Honey & Chilli Mango! Had the classic Chocolate ($13) and Brown Sugar Raspberry ($13). The chocolate was thick and not too sweet, while the brown sugar raspberry was an interesting one! It was a lighter flavour that had a light brown sugar sweetness with slightly more tangy swirls of raspberry. Definitely would have loved more raspberry in this, but we still quite enjoyed it. Their spot at JEM is open for takeaways now, with free islandwide delivery for orders above $50.

On top of their new bentos, we took the chance to order more spicy lotus roots which got us hooked last round. Perfect balance of flavours + the heat and lingering numbness in it is suuuper addictive. It’s as good as I remembered If we didn’t stop ourselves, my sister and I probably would have finished a box each in one sitting 😂

Continuing from their Sichuan style kway chap & spicy cold dishes, 聪生家 SG Chengdu Family now has these Sichuan style bento boxes - 三道菜便当! The dishes rotate twice a week and ours was 鱼香茄子, 手撕包菜 & 土豆烧排骨 (garlic sauce eggplant, stir-fry cabbage & braised ribs). Sounds simple enough but they were delicious and really good with rice, especially the super unassuming cabbage!

Not bad! Usually won’t go for cream cheese buns even though I love cheese, because the filling often leans more sweet. This however, has a mix of sour cream on top of cream cheese. Exterior is not super crispy though, as we were hoping for based on the name, but has a decent bite to it. Will be back to try their other breads.

Stole a bite of my friend’s chicken, and it fared much better than my aglio olio. Came with a generous blanket of cheese on top, a side of fries and some veg.

Moments’ has a big menu from local dishes like hor fun to western, dim sum and desserts. Unfortunately not a fan of their agilo olio, as it was quite bland and lacked heat. Heard from the tables next to us that their toasts are pretty good though!

Came for this the last time but it was sold out, so we popped by since we were in the area! They are topped with condensed milk and butter, toasted to a crunch outside and retained a bit more softness inside. I definitely prefer these more to those that are fully crunchy, which I find a tad dry. That said though, I’ll go for their other toasts next time, cause these were a bit tiring to bite after a while.

A little expensive considering the size but enjoyed this! What I liked most was that it’s not greasy and the bread still has a good amount of thickness to it. It looks very fried, but was still soft inside, with a very distinct and fragrant eggy taste. Go for the syrup to sweeten it up, but would recommend not to pour too much so that it doesn’t cover the savoury touch of the butter.

The Kind Bowl is a plant-based Vietnamese spot that’s just a short walk away from Somerset. Couldn’t really imagine how chicken pho can be made plant-based, but we were so impressed! The unassuming broth was clean tasting yet very flavourful, with a distinct fragrant mix of your usual pho herbs. If you’re thinking what about the meats? It’s replaced with a generous portion of king abalone mushroom slices and mock meats. Lots of textures here and was such a comforting bowl! It comes with alliums, but you can request for them to exclude it.

Always enjoy getting 拉皮 and though they look similar, usually the difference lies in the combination of sauces. Yan Lai Ju’s had a distinct nuttiness but glad that the sauce wasn’t too thick, so that it was still refreshing to have. Was only hoping it was a tiny bit spicier! Noodles were still chewy even though it was delivered. It’s a bit pricy for the portion.
