Just had an ultra comforting dinner in the neighbourhood at Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh. It recently relocated to 7th Mile Coffeeshop at Toh Yi Drive, while its previous space was across the road alongside Micasa and Flagwhite Cafe.

I like that their Teochew-style clear BKT gives substantial heat but is also not done overly peppery. The soup comes with every option you can think of - Prime Cut Rib, Sliced Pork (which are what we had), Liver & Kidney, Intestine & Stomach, Sliced Fish, etc. & yes, they come around for fresh refills of the broth!

Sides you must try are their freshly fried crunchy You Tiao and Chilled Cucumber Salad. We wiped the latter quickly cause it was super refreshing, a little spicy and not oily!

We always look forward to Wu Pao Chun’s unique seasonal creations. For Mid-Autumn this year, you can opt for their specially handcrafted Salted Egg Pastries that comes in 2 flavours - White Lotus Sated Egg and Yam Salted Egg. They are mildly sweet and encased in a baked pastry skin. It’s $4.80 a piece, or $27 for a gift box of 6 that has an equal mix of both.

These are available at both Wu Pao Chun outlets in Capitol Singapore and Paragon.

Here’s an option for you if you’re not a fan of the usual baked mooncakes - Thye Moh Chan’s Teochew mung bean-based mooncakes that carry a lightly flaky pastry skin with different fillings.

2 brand new flavours joining their Mid-Autumn series this year are the Jasmine with Salted Egg Yolk and Pistachio flavours. Super fuss-free brunch we just had using @newmultisg’s Chicken Patties that are healthier choice approved and preservatives free. We tossed them in the airfryer and had them in a wrap! I loved that these weren’t too salty. Each bag at $13.40 has 20 pieces.

Equally convenient to prepare are their Crispy Fish Popcorn and Spicy Fried Boneless Chicken Thigh (this was like a McSpicy man, spice was legit).

The homemade wantons are done very plump with smooth and thin skin, but I’d personally like the meat filling to be just a tiny bit fattier for that juiciness.

Between the homemade wanton and housemade pork balls, I prefer the latter! You can try them as a topping with your noodles.

Had Mian Jia twice in 2 weeks - I’m so sad to have just discovered them, as they have finalised closure on 27 Aug 🥺

My picks from these 2 visits are their Pickled Veg Fish Fillet Tonkotsu Soup and the Singapore-style Crispy Crusted Chicken Cutlet, both with their Special Sauce Dry Noodle (aka scallion oil noodles). The dry noodles are my fav, it’s EXTRA FRAGRANT and they top it off with bonito flakes which gives an extra delicate smokiness. Their base Tonkotsu broth is creamy and rich. Please come by to try!

Lime Restaurant’s annual LobsterFest is on till 13 Aug, with a whole line-up of unlimited servings of lobsters. My favourite was their Kam Heong Lobster, done very fragrant with the generous use of savoury dried shrimps and curry leaves. Meat was firm, fresh and juicy! Price includes unlimited servings of beer, chilled juices, specialty coffee and tea.

Patiently waited for homebaker @twoambakes’ Matcha box and finally snagged one, feat. Matcha Yuzu Tart, Nikoneko Matcha Financier & Matcha Tiramisu!

I absolutely loved her tart. It had a crisp shell filled with an intensely bittersweet matcha ganache, complemented by a bright yuzu paste - in just the right amount that didn’t overpower. The Tiramisu on the other hand, had a lot stronger coffee notes than matcha. Can’t wait to try the matcha terrines!
