Heard about this place which gave Mad about Sucre a run for its money but I still find the desserts at MAS better by a notch.
Not exactly the cheapest cafe as well, we paid 29.80 for 3 cakes. Favourite here so far is the lemon tart which had just the right amount of âsournessâ without being too overwhelming. Such a pretty place for a catch up over tea. BUT drawback is that the place has rather few seats.
A very generous serving here at Cai Ji. They offer yam rice which felt healthier than just the usual. Didnât drizzle with any starchy kind of sauce so I could really taste the tenderness of the duck. I can understand the long queues during usual office hours
SBCDâs tofu is the soft silky and amazing tofu but itâs seafood pancake here is also quite a star on its own. Itâs packed with veggies but doesnât scrimp on the squid and prawns. The pancake is light and crispy on the outside, makes for a good side dish.
Back here for Breakfast. Gravy is sweet with a tinge of sourness. I like this because the Mee Siam gravy is slightly thicker than usual, noodles are not soggy nor over cooked. Not hard to see understand why this is a popular dish here. Rumah sayang uses long grained rice for nasi lemak, that is worth a try too!
I consider cedele a rather family friendly cosy place. My fav tofu miso pasta has been changed to red miso. Honestly preferred the old version which had pumpkin. This just has a lot of capsicum etc things that I donât favour. Also felt like my linguine could be more well cooked. đ° Not the best experience at one of my favorite chain stores but I will always give my comfort place another shot.
The rice was fluffy and moist which is a big plus point. Ingredients was a a bit much for two people (not complaining perhaps my friend and I were both a little full). Liked it that we could add our own black sauce and we both avoided adding too much oil but it was still fragrant enough for us. Could really smell and taste the salted fish too. We also had water cress soup which provided a more subtle end to our meal. I would return for this!
Still quite canât figure out whatâs the black skin made of but it has a stronger taste than the clear skin har gao. Personally still prefer the clear skin one. I have made it a point to go to restaurants for dim sum because the coffee shops just donât have the same standards.
Crystal jade is family friendly and has pretty decent dim sum fare. I would say stick to the original ones - they really taste much better. Personally favs at crystal jade include chee cheong fun (prawn, dough or XO with dried shrimp) and I think their char siew pao is really not bad with the fluffy pao texture.
Plus point is the really pretty deco with pink plates.
Cereal crayfish at BanTong is one of my all time fav tze char dishes. Cereal was crispy with a tinge of spiciness. The crayfish with its subtly sweet taste goes really well with the cereal. I love the 5 bucks value for money soups at ban tong as well. Have returned many times and will always return.
Beach Road Prawn Noodles really does not disappoint. Noodles were not over cooked, big prawns were bigger than I remembered. Soup was rich but because of the portion, not overwhelming. Even the bean sprouts had a very clean taste.
Thereâs a slight difference to the soupy and dry version. Personally prefer the dry version because for the soup, the lard was also added directly to the soup, so it felt more oily.
Order the Ngoh Hiang too! Queue looks long but it goes rather efficiently.
Pork slices plated nicely like a flower. The tonkotsu broth was rich and I liked that it wasnât packed with too much ingredients, just ramen with 4 huge pieces of pork, spring onions, fungus and an egg. The simplicity of the dish really allowed me to fully âimmerseâ myself in the richness of the tonkotsu broth, which I truly appreciated.
Turnip apparently poached in prawn bisque. It is VERY fragrant and I took down 3 of it immediately (no shame I was in a group of 5) lol. The cup was crispy even though youâd half expect it to be a little soggy because of the turnips, but no it was really CRISPY!
Dry laksa packs a punch. I liked that it has a lot of tau pok and bean sprouts. Flavourful and just a little fiery to add to the other more subtle peranakan dishes we ordered.
