Fried dough filled with orange-infused earl grey cream – what's not to like?
Even with only four desserts on the menu, fret not - Alter Ego helps with your sweet cravings - be it the difficult decision of eating clean, or a sinful indulgence.
For the health nuts, their smoothie bowls ($6 - Blackberry Binge/ Cacaoholic) has bananas, blueberries, soymilk and all the stuff that's good for you. The former with additional raspberries/ blackberries, pomegranate arils, quinoa Puff and roasted cashews, the latter with raw cocoa nibs, dark chocolate & coconut drizzle! Honestly it might work as a meal by itself? 😛
Consider the Berries & Cream ($11) with macerated strawberries/raspberries, and light Chantilly cream; or Lemon Icebox Pie ($11) with a no-bake, smooth, tangy lemon curd filling on the cinnamon-dusted crust for a little more guilty indulgence.
You know the people behind Harrianns are doing things right since they started way back in 1940s. The simple Kuih Kosuis here are evident testimonies, they were subtle and fragrant with each different flavor. They would do our nation/culture proud as ambassadors of our Kuehs beside the categorically similar yet with distinct difference: Japanese mochi and Korean rice cake representatives.
P.s: The glutinous rice that comes sweet or savory (or you could have a mix of both) is also a long time family favorite)
We came 2 people so the waiting time is quite long. They only accept cash payment so do bring enough cash, if not you may end up walking to 7-11 nearby to buy a thing and get them to help u change money at least 10$. For food, the chicken noodle was so so, spring rolls were rather vegetarian style with a bit meat and veggie soup as inside the filling, xiao long bao filling was ok but the skin was not as thin, so the best was Shanghai Bun (8.4$ for 6 baos). They will serve you Chrysanthemum tea and wet tissue even u dont ask for it and table fee will be shown in the receipt which was $2.4. I guess $2 is for the tea and the rest for wet tissue. I might come back for the yummy Shanghai bun and may try the Shanghai drunken chicken!
The Mother of all Char Siew Paus found here at Chinatown Complex. $2.80 for 3 steaming hot buns— defo worth the money and tummy jiggles. Chunks of meat marinated to perfection enveloped by fluffy dough, can't get any better than this 👌🏻 Was real tough to share in a lunch appointment for 2 cos we both wanted the last pau, lol #Burpplecheapandgood
Springy handmade noodles with minced meat in soya bean sauce complimented with 3 vegetables. My lunch is complete. ;)
It may seem a tad ex but they are really worth the money! Crispy outside with plenty of red bean filling inside the mochi-like pastry sprinkled with sesame seeds... Yumz...

Hot bowls of Ah Balling black sesame paste (basically has tang yuan, which you can choose between peanut or sesame) - simple, cheap and authentic. It really felt like I was in a crowded dessert shop in Hong Kong.
Really adored this bowl of nourishing goodness as it was thick and creamy, but not too sweet nor overpowering. Worth the price tag though a tad too pricey! As much as that being said, it's good for health as almonds are supposedly nourishing for the lungs and for good complexion!
Despite the flack that this place has received in recent years, there hasn't been a liusha bao that has satisfied my tastebuds as well as this one. This is the basis of comparison that I use for all my liushabaos just cause this tastes like childhood heaven. The dough is just the right texture of chewiness and the saucey goodness inside is DELECTABLE. Truly one of my first loves.
A hearty comforting bowl of spicy sour happiness ❤️❤️ Do opt for their noodles as recommended by the friendly owner & don't be shy to ask for extra spice as the heat is pretty muted. You'll be slurping this whole bowl down & maybe ordering another like we did. It's so addictiveeee! 👅💦
