Shrimp Salad ($16.90)

Price Rating: $$

Ambience: 3*

Tangy, refreshing and the perfect combination of toppings. The shrimp salad is a western dish with an asian twist to it. The prawns are sweet and spicy, and the taste is neutralized by the olives, onions and grapes. A very filling meal without all the guilt!

Kraftwich by Swissbake
Raisin Scones with Butter ($2.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

Scones, I’ve always thought that it’s only an English thing, but apparently, the Swiss make it GOOD.
If you are looking for cheap thrills and good scones that satisfies your cravings, I would say, go for Kraftwich over Starbucks. The scones are similar, but you will look more hipster and less like a basic b*tch.

I mean, just look at that perfect swirl of rich, dark chocolate in that beautiful piece pf danish. Sinful, sinful, sinful.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

Sugar Brioche($2.8)

Price Rating: $

Ambience: 3*

How dare you enter a bakery and only order a sugar brioche! Oh, wait it’s from Tiong Bahru Bakery? Oh, okay that makes sense.

A simple affair with snow white-like sugar cubes littered all over the top of the soft, fluffy bread. Who wouldn’t like that?

Tiong Bahru Bakery
Kouign Amann($3.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

Alright, I’m gonna make this easier for you. It’s pronounced as “Queen Aman”.
A little scandalous if you accidentally remember it as “Queen’s Aman”, and a little ballsy if you call it “Queen, A Man.”

If you don’t know what Kouign Amann is, it is this piece of sweet, caramelized goodness with a crunch and a chew to it. A little salty, mostly sweet, and a perfect snack to go with a cuppa.

Tiong Bahru Bakery
Green Tea Almond Croissant ($4.5)
Price Rating: $
Ambience: 3*

If you know me, you should also know that I take my croissants very, very seriously.
So, in search of the best croissants in Singapore, I scoured every piece of this very expensive land for some buttery, flaky goodness and decided to step into this local bakery run by the french. Still suffering from some form of post-colonial hangover (JK, we were colonized by the Brits), I’ve decided to go against my natural repulsion towards green tea and give it a shot. I was ready to open fire at it’s taste and complain about how much I hate green tea on my food. Man was I wrong. After taking a bite of the croissant, I felt like I needed to apologize to the piece of pastry I held in my hands for being so mean. Well, enough said, it was good, and worth your calories, so go for it.

Entre-Nous Creperie

Geraldine’s Favourite ($15.4)

Price rating: $$

Ambience: 3 *

Well well, bet you were looking for this review after reading my first post. Wait, you haven’t? Well, head on to the first if you want to know about some savoury goodness of crepes(and cheeses).

Frankly, I chose this as my dessert because I liked the name Geraldine. And I didn’t understand why the name Geraldine equals to Everybody. “So everyone is a Geraldine, and Geraldine’s favourite is everyone’s favourite?” I asked the waitress (who is also a French), where she replied “Desolee, je ne sais pas.” and moved along. Now I’m confused, perhaps there were so many french in that cafe she forgot momentarily that my primary language ain’t French.

The menu was right, though, Geraldine’s Favourite was presented to us, warm, but not piping hot. Enough to melt the creamy vanilla ice cream a little but not so hot that you end up with a warm vanilla drink on your plate. The caramel sauce drizzled over the crepe.. Oh no, not those cheap syrup you see at the supermarket. That’s atrocious. It's the good, caramelized goodness with an ever so mild bitter aftertaste caramel should have. Hmmm, so yummy… As you cut into the crepe, the caramelized apples then flow out, along with the cold ice cream, you put it into your mouth. Creamy, cold, warm, sweet, and bitter. A gastronomical explosion on your tongue as you reach for the second, third bite and before you know it, it’s gone, and you need a second crepe. No wonder it’s everyone’s favourite.

Entre-Nous Creperie
Emmental Cheese and Button Mushrooms with bechamel sauce ($16.90)
Price rating: $$
Ambience: 3 *

Entre-Nous Creperie is my go-to place for french crepes because they mean business. What do I mean business? Despite being tucked away at a corner of a quaint street, you can see french people streaming in and speaking in their tongues.. For a moment I thought I was in Europe. Authentic French Crepes, that’s why, they mean business.

Creamy, thicc, rich, and aromatic… as you cut open the crepe, melted cheese pours out from the slit with the bechamel sauce and before you know it, you had to wipe your saliva off on the napkin.. Cheeses are not for the faint hearted but the emmental cheese is a milder variety for the general public’s palates. Portions are big, so if you’ve decided to chicken out because of a mental barrier(emmental barrier), or simply because you are lactose intolerant, you can always opt for the sweet option, coming up, in the next review.

Bon Appetit!
