Award-winning pizzaiolo, Junichi Shoji, brings his popular authentic Naples-style Italian pizzas to our sunny shores. Start with their simple yet delicious Pizza Margherita D.O.C ($26) that sees buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil on a thin-crust pizza base. Otherwise, the spicy yet tropical Pizza Leone ($22) is an excellent choice — think pineapples, jalapenos on a tomato-based pizza topped with ricotta cheese and ham.

This Tanjong Pagar watering hole is the real deal — just ask the Japanese expats who fill the place regularly. On hot, humid nights, go for the ingeniously done Omakase Oden ($25), which features cooling yuzu daikon, kombu prawn dumplings and more. Also not to be missed is the mini Claypot Rice with Seabream ($29), a chef's special that sees pearly rice cooked in rich seabream dashi. Yum.

If it's a foolproof supper spot you're looking for, this Cuppage Plaza izakaya has you covered with wonderful skewers and snazzy feels. Standouts include the Foie Gras ($7), the fatty Tontoro Ringo (pork jaw, $4.50) and easy-to-love Pink Pork Belly ($4). Queues form as early as 6pm, so make a reservation if you can!

Yorimichi Yakitori is a small Izakaya hidden away at Golden Mile Tower (even the address on google was wrong 😨) was such a great find. Cozy, decked out in Japanese memorabilia and serving up great food – doesn't get better than that.

Recommended by their staff, the Ankimo was one of my (many) favorites of the night! The monkfish liver was a chilly, rich texture and came together perfectly with the strong hit of wasabi and refreshing cucumber underneath. It's just that kind of dish that makes your eyes go wide open while you're nodding vigorously to your dinner mates. 👀

For a trendy yakitori to bring your friends, this fairly new one in town guarantees a good time. You can expect to chomp on mindblowingly good Chicken Karaage ($9.60) and a varied selection of yakitori, while nursing a very tall glass of Mega Highball (from $18). In case you’re hungry for more, bat for the hearty Oyako Don ($12.80) — just pray that it hasn't sold out!

Unwind with freshly Fried Chicken and a super tall, ice-cold double-shot Mega Highball with a small group of friends. From the yakitori selection, the Dumpling ($4) stands out. The Coriander Salad ($6.60) is a surprisingly refreshing side to go with it all.

Community favourite Keria racks up points for its underrated but oh so delicious Japanese fare. Get the value-for-money Tempura Set Meal, which comes with expertly batter-fried morsels AND super fresh sashimi. A group of three to four is perfect for this spot, so you'll have tummy space to share the addictive Mentaiko Cabbage ($8) and luxe Uni Spaghetti ($21) too!

Dan dan men, the most expensive item here, came loaded with ingredients: 2 kinds of pork, puckled radish, onions, ajitama, fried shallots, and some greens. One of the pork chunks were a tad too sweet for my liking, but when mixed they all came out fragrant and tasty. The peanut taste was super duper strong, and that's why the dashi broth came in handy to dilute it slowly as you are getting full (or jelat). I chose medium spicy and level 3 for the mala spices, but found it quite subtle. Could have chosen very spicy with more mala spices if you want more kicks. Not a cheap bowl of noodle for sure, but I love how bold the flavour is.

A croissant muffin is genius cos it allows for a filling. Thought this wasn’t their best flavour (I also tried the lemon curd, which I felt was better) but the pastry was beautiful, strong butter notes but not oozing with oil. The salted caramel had more of a ?butterscotch flavour and had too much saltiness in proportion to sweetness. But i guess the sugar coating on the outside made up for that. If you like your flavours many and bold, you’d probably like this!
