In the quaint, intimate restaurant of Kai, we watched the chef slice our fresh cuts of sashimi. Swordfish, with its mild flavour chews meaty and firm. With a richer, buttery aroma, Yellowtail is tender between your teeth. But Salmon remains our love! Bite into the chunk of sweet, creamy sashimi, tender and also thick. A first, and bliss it was π Our chat with the helpful chef across the sushi bar made this meal all the more special.
180 grams each portion cost $13.90 grilled and sliced, soft juicy steak. Side served potato wedges and house salad.
Price: S$19
Despite the price, this could still easily be a dish that I would recommend to people who are bravely venturing into the vegetarian world. For dinner. It's a great way to dip their toe in and see that perhaps they can survive the trip.
The thing that attempts to be salmon sashimi is my favorite - considering that I loooove real salmon carcass. I also like the ones that attempt to be tuna sashimi. They're a little too brittle in texture but still good.
Once again I find myself at Tsukada Nojo, this time a little greedier than normal. Hence the Chicken Nanban order. π
This chicken dish packs a punch with that flavour-packed spicy chunky mayo. Spread generously on crispy, tender chicken, this is one sinful treat that's well worth the calories (I think the addition of salad is just to make you feel better about yourself).π

Unfortunately, 2 Dons weren't enough for 2 fatties (the portions here are small), so we ordered the Smoked Duck Hoisin Sauce Tortilla Pizza ($13.90+) off the Bar Bites menu to share.
While I didn't like the visible pools of oil on top of this pizza, the crunchy tortilla base was surprisingly more of a hit than miss for me. Its rigidity keeps the pizza from spilling everywhere, & the size of the skies is a good one for finger food. The smoked duck with fragrant hoisin sauce was reminiscent of peking duck (probably because of the latter) - in all, a winning combination of a fusion dish in my books.

Speaking from experience, this is pure comfort food that the alcohol-saturated would greatly appreciate.
The large bowl is filled to the brim with a chazuke of rice and the most concentrated of chicken soups. It is crowned with a few pieces of grilled chicken, toasted sesame seeds, seaweed and spring onions. On a small saucer is a mini squiggle of yuzu kosho to be stirred in as desired. I love the chazuke both with and without the citrusy, spicy paste as it is sublime on its own.

Okay guys, weekend is here. That means itβs time to indulge. If I may make a suggestion, I say go for this veritable pile of good stuff, comprising meaty shreds of crispy pulled duck on chunks of potato roasted in duck fat and garnished with lashings of cheese sauce and truffled mayonnaise.

If beef bowl is your thing, you definitely have to try this Wagyu Black Pepper Beef Bowl ($22) from STRAY by Fatcat. Tender and nicely seared wagyu steak that remains warm pinkish inside. Sprinkled with spring onions and fried shallots for some crunch and a nice subtle Chinese-style fragrance, a wobbly and running onsen egg by the side, the bowl is completed with a beautiful and refreshing pink ginger foam! π
Finally got to try this instagram-worthy cake that tastes as good as it looks! The cake was moist and spongy, while the salted egg glaze added just a touch of savouriness which really brought out the flavour of the whole cake. Would have preferred if the salted egg flavour was a little stronger, but really not a bad attempt at melding the two flavours together!
Tender, slightly chewy beef slices with an intoxicating whiff of truffle oil. Rather pricey, an occasional splurge, though not my favourite π Available at Pasar Bella at Suntec City.
Iβm always game for salted egg yolk anything! This is an interesting combo, and guess what? It totally works! Not the best salted egg dish around, but definitely worth a try! Get it from the ιΌ Dingβs Carrot Cake stall π³

Wild Market at Shaw Tower is an βatasβ food court in a small space, so it tends to get filled very quickly during lunch hours. Some interesting stalls offering uncommon dishes, something different.
