This is one of the best tendon equivalents I've had in Singapore. I say tendon equivalents because its effectively tendon with the option to switch rice to udon. Bonus points for the deliciously juicy crab leg and fresh prawns. The inaniwa udon delivers a refreshing break from the oiliness of the tempura and its done to the perfect chewable texture, not too mushy or too hard. Still one of my go to places.
This is a real value find and I'd happily polish off more portions except the sets are so huge. The truffle bits are generous and and the steamed egg is silky smooth. Mushroom chunks scattered throughout provide a nice bite and prevent the dish from being boring. At 3.80, this is a must try!
The cod is tender and juicy and flakes easily, despite a nicely crisp exterior with slight char. The gremolata is a nice contrast texturally to the softness of the fish providing a good bite without stealing the show.
Paired with a sencha to bring out the flavours and highlight the savours of the sea, its a wonderfully comforting meal for a Thursday.
Since the Robertson Quay branch closed its doors I find myself frequenting the one at Takashimaya more often now and my go to is always the Nagekomi Don, otherwise known as fisherman's catch or fresh catches of the day. The selection doesn't always vary too much and features the usual staples like tuna salmon, negitoro, anago and ebi but on some lucky occasions the bowl has featured shiroebi, hotate and more. The set comes with a miso soup and some chef appetisers and is filling enough to leave me in a food coma for the rest of the day. What I truly love is the mixed grain rice that delivers a different depth of flavour on its own and adds to the complexity of the clean bowl. I've been here many times and will keep returning just to sate my regular sashimi bowl cravings. At under 30 nett, its definitely a steal and for affordable than the expensive Ala Carte dinner menu!
6.90 for the perfect post lunch treat when it's a rough week ahead. Love the mixed hokkaido milk n matcha combo as I find the matcha too heavy for me in a full portion, instead the hokkaido milk gives it a nice balance of sweet n bitter. Hokkaido milk on its own is not bad too but its just better together with the matcha.
These may be the best grilled oysters I've ever had. The flesh is creamy and succulent and its grilled to perfection. The basil is just the right tinged contrast to bring out the umami and it was like a flavour explosion in my mouth I couldn't get enough of. We started with 2 and ended up with 6 more. So good I'll be back soon! 4.25 each.
Located just a stone’s throw away from Botanic Gardens MRT Station, @fatbellysg is an unconventional steakhouse that aims to dish up a dance on your palate with lesser-known cuts of beef. Constantly being at the top of @burpple’s Trending list, you may order from their ala carte menu or instead have an alternative experience by going for their tasting menu.
。
Special mention goes out to their starter medley, which teased my palate with interesting umami-laden notes.

A place we will revisit - the mains menu looked super appealing and we loved both dishes, but somehow the Salmon Mentai Pasta portion was so little it’s such a pity! Nonetheless worth it with Burpple Beyond :)
Truffle fries (~$13.90) was quite addictive; super crispy and you could ACTUALLY TASTE THE TRUFFLE FLAVOUR!! The fries were the kind that wasn’t really filled with potato though 🍟 And also, really liked how they topped it up with substantial amount of cheese 👍🏻

Again, the Shiro Uni is creamy, with a little sweet, briny flavour. Dripped in white miso soup to give off this multi-layered umami experience. Trust us, this is any Uni lover’s dream come true.
