The fan favourite at Serangoon Garden is known for its tender and succulent Braised Duck Rice.

You can tell a stall is doing it right when the queues are snaking long throughout the day, and customers are willing to wait even in rush hours.

The regular portion of Duck Rice at $3.50 is quite quite its priced, while you can top up with other ingredients such as braised pork, pig head meat, pig tongue, pig ear, braised egg, tau pok and cabbage.

What people like would be the nostalgic Teochew flavours of tender duck pieces, paired well with the white rice drizzled with braising sauce.

Not bad, duck was slightly tough but sliced thinly so the bite wasn't too bad. Sauce was thin but q savoury. The chili was flat and very sour, but works well in small quantities. Garlic works super well too and the soup was pretty good, can taste the duck umami. Not worth the queue tho

It’s our usual staple whenever we frequent any duck rice or Kway Chap stalls, and these sides from Ah Seng is good. Worth trying if you are at Serangoon Gardens! TGIF!

No regrets, as we missed the flavours of this braised duck rice so much. Very tender duck meat, and that killer ‘zup’ sauce which was drenched all over our rice. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Braised to tender, flavorsome perfection, the duck here is worth braving the queue and the heat for.

Masterfully prepared, the layer of fat in between the skin and the meat is mostly rendered out so what you’re left with is succulent meat with just a teeny weeny layer of buttery fat to give it that ‘shiok’ appeal.

While then braised duck alone is great, I usually get the full kit that includes a braised hard boiled egg, tau pok and tau gua. The braising liquid or sauce, while thinner than many others, goes very well with the rice which is sometimes a problem because I often find myself opting for an extra plate of rice. If you have the stomach for it, definitely go for their pig’s stomach soup, which boasts a peppery flavour somewhat similar to bak kut teh but not quite.

Be prepared to join the longest queue at serangoon gardens food centre if you want to feast on Ah Seng’s Braised Duck Rice! Get your orders right in your mind before it’s your turn as they have no time to wait for you to decide when it’s your turn. Wanting to make the 40mins queuing worth the while, I basically ordered the duck rice and the pig’s stomach soup. Duck was done pretty well (though not worth the long wait as I’ve had better) but it was also that piping hot bowl of peppery pig’s stomach soup that completed the experience and made this feel like a complete meal. Would i queue again? Yes, but only if I am in the area.
