Ordered the Sliced Fish Soup ($5.80), Double Fish Soup ($6.80), extra egg floss ($1), Fried Tofu with Sesame ($4.80) and Calamansi with plum ($2)

Opted out of the milk in the soup to taste the original flavour, but sadly the broth fell a little short of my expectations. The fish flavour was not very strong but if you love garlic oil, you will love this. Many small pieces of garlic on the soup, which made the soup really fragrant. Fish slices were fresh and sweet, but quite little 🥺 think there were only 5-6 slices.

The fried tofu was really delicious, slightly crispy on the outside, and perfectly silky and tender inside. Was a tad bit oily though. With the sesame sauce (tasted exactly like Kewpie’s), it really complemented the flavour 😛

Calamansi with plum (not pictured) was a surprise. Even till the end when most of the ice had melted, the flavour was still very strong. The plum provided a nice, slightly salty aftertaste to the sour calamansi, worth a try!

Bill came out to be $20.40 for 2, which is pretty value-for-money considering a meal in town. We went down at around 3pm, but there was still a queue, which is a testament to the popularity of this place!

Ordered Tom Yam Fish Soup ($6.80), Sliced Fish Soup ($5.80) and Har Cheong Gai ($4) for lunch! Food was good, but you’ll have to eat quickly and head off fast as the queue will build up due to the limited seats available.

I was craving for a bowl of fish soup but my mandate has always been to avoid those at Food courts because I can’t stand the sight of yellow scrawny vegetables and fish slices as thin as paper. Worse still if they use msg laden soup .

Given not much of a choice in Orchard Road , cross straits cafe is the closest I could probably get to a decent fish soup . The bittegourd was plentiful but the fish slices were few and so precious but at least they were not paper thin .
Thankfully they don’t use the dried kind of bee hoon for their thick bee hoon so at least the noodle texture was decent . What was best was probably the house made chilli sauce which was fiery and boasted a vingerish kick.

Service is “ good” and the Uncle upsells chicken wings and fish cakes and drinks to every one Who comes in. I must say for a small shop , they are pretty profitable because the turnover is quite fast .

No complaints if you need a hot meal and a clean place to sit but portions need to be better 😊

4.5 munchies: Having been a regular customer of the awesome sliced/fried fish bee hoon with egg floss since it began operations in July last year, I somehow never got a chance to try the side dishes. So when it finally got down to choosing either the Fried Tofu with Thai Chilli Sauce or Prawn Paste Chicken, we weren't expecting the former to impress at all. Not only the exterior had a good crisp, I also couldn't believe how soft and silky the inside was. And the best part was it wasn't even oily! You won't be stopping at one; that's for sure. 5 munchies if only the dipping sauce had a tinge of sourness and were slightly spicier for me.

Cross Straits offers one of the most delicious and yet delightful sliced fish bee soup you can have in town. The taste of it is pretty as close as what you can get from blanco! If you're thinking of going for something healthy today. Head down to Far East Plaza level 5 to have some of this! (Oh wait, they were previously from Cuppage Plaza!) 😄

Was dragged all the way to Far East Plaza to try this fish soup, but no complain! It was a really good bowl of clear soup with prominent garlicky taste. Ordered the double fish because I knew I wouldn't have time to go back there soon (and partially because I was indecisive) but forgot to ask for milk 🤦🏻‍♀️ Still an enjoyable bowl I must say! The part that I loved the most was actually the deep fried egg skin (the excess chao dar part of fried egg) soaked in the soup. This fish soup was a different style as compared to my 2 other "regulars" and probably not everyone will enjoy this as much. But then again, to each its own; I happily ended my fish soup streaks with this bowl!
