To me, this was one of the highlights of the dinner. The Aunty who took the order was very candid: "Would you like the black or the white version?" she asked. "The white one," we replies. "Ok, we have time now, we will specially do a dish for you," she said. And we had our Fried Hokkien prawn mee. The slightly flat noodles they used was reminiscent of the KL equivalent of the Hokkien mee, however the flavoring and taste were distinctly Singaporean. The chilli was just nice. Lovely combination!

Known for their fiery, extra spicy homemade chili, this is the perfect supper for spice lovers and it's great that the stall stays open till 3am daily. A plate of Spicy Hokkien Mee ($4 for small, $6 for medium) boasts a good ratio of noodles to bee hoon, and comes well-soaked in an umami broth, packing in lots of flavour. Good thing about this coffeeshop is that it also houses the popular Punggol Nasi Lemak — perfect for a group of friends who can't decide where to head to for supper. Pro tip: Mix in a third of the chili first before deciding how much more heat you can handle!

Exactly what I needed on a cold rainy night like this! This hokkien noodles has more gravy than the usual ones, which was good because it musks the oilyness of the fried noodles. Broth is very flavourful. The sinfully deep fried siok bak was so worth the calories! And the waiting time was like 5 minutes?! How lucky!!

A traditional plate of noodles, bee hoon and everything it supposed it have for a good plate of hokkien prawn mee. At $5 it's portion is good enough for two to share and it's situated right at the road junction next to the mrt. The balechan is deliciously spicy and the wetness of the dish is just nice for anyone's liking

The famous Hokkien Prawn Mee in Toa Payoh Lorong 1 Market. What we saw on the plain flat plate of noodle was the result of decades of Hardwork. .

The stall owners wake up in 4 in the morning and start boiling the stock. For a good plate of hokkien Mee, the cook need to fry the minced garlic with lard then stir fried the egg and noodles. While the wok hei was formed, the stock would be rush in to bind all the flavors together.

The noodles was moist with sweet juicy prawns and sotongs. $8 for each plate!

Wet, extremely flavourful with a strong whiff of wok hei and awesome chilli, what's not to like about this plate of fried hokkien mee? Perhaps the fact that it might take a while before your noodles arrive due to its popularity. #burpplecheapngood
