Dinner Things
I love this place. The food is incredibly interesting and delicious. Particular mention goes to the char siew bacon mac & cheese, brawn terrine (that’s a brined pig’s head ahem) and charred sweet corn & grits. Quite cute too they have their own take on a BCM but with tagliatelle. Also important, they have a wild selection of gin and their own distilled ones on tap. 😱
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to come dine at Greenwood Fish Market. The food here is solid, seafood is super fresh and prepared beautifully. Prices are decent considering the quality and service is fairly good. I loved the chowder (a must-order for me if on the menu) and we demolished the mussels very quickly!
Creamy, comforty, carby goodness. Just order it, ok?
This deeply flavourful crispy fried chicken was the chicken winner for me. The battered chillies & onions were a nice added crunch and the green chilli nam jim dipping sauce was gone before the chicken was (so we had to ask for more). DELISH.
I really enjoyed this - mostly cos I like all things egg. It was a nice density and the chorizo gave it smoky and salty flavours. Also, the toast and tomatoes that it came with was delishhh.
Seemed a little more risotto-like than paella. I thought it was quite wet, and didn't have much oomph. It did taste quite nice though, just not what I expected.
Another just okay dish. The rice was nicely seasoned with a subtle hint of ginger - but it wasn't particularly fluffy and in some parts stuck together. The meat was nice enough, like a tender/juicy deli rotisserie chicken and there was a little after taste of the beer. There was a nostalgic feel to this dish - it reminded us of hawker western food chicken chop, especially the gloopy pepper sauce that glazed the chicken leg. Again, it tasted fine but - I don't think I'd pay $16 for this again. 😐
Sooo, this looked much better in the photos - I was a little disappointed. The pork belly tasted good but it was not tender (like braised meat ought to be), and the richness of the meat was not sufficient to carry the rather tasteless linguine. A shame though cos the meat tasted nice.
I don't know why but I always get super excited when my pan fried dumplings are served and there is that layer of crispiness still holding them together. These guotie were filled with meat, leeks and a shrimp (yup, just one) and were so juicy and so flavourful. Made even more perfect with the accompaniment of vinegar and ginger. 🤤
I think this was more an interesting order than a super delicious order. Overall it was just ok, the duck was tasty enough but the sauce was quite lacklustre. The lady serving us explained that they are the only ones to prepare and serve duck in this way - with a crispy Chinese pancake (pita-like) pocket instead of the usual steamed wraps.
I'm not usually a fan of squid ink - too many poor experiences. But this was so good! It was creamy and packed with super ocean umami. Also, squid pieces were buried in the paella like little bouncy treasures.

I think there are very few things that a bowl of soup cannot fix. That, or gin.
