Glutinous rice with fresh coconut cream, served with spiced chicken and coconut 'floss'

Walked past chalk farm a couple of months back and haven’t stopped thinking about their cakes since, so imagine my joy when I discovered their offspring at Takashimaya! Finally got to try their famed Kueh Salat and it didn’t disappoint! Dense chewy glutinous rice topped with a sweet layer of coconut custard that was oh so soft (that it actually crumbled when I jiggled the cake) 🤤🤤 Interesting rendition of the traditional Kueh and will definitely be back to try their other cakes!

Kueh Salat ($6)

2nd attempt to buy a slice of kueh salat @milkmoonssg . This cake/kueh is just perfect in every respect. Beautifully sliced, pandan kaya to blue pea glutinous rice ratio on point, Sweetness level just nice. Glorified and hipsterdized yes but so worth the try. Also try the top voted glutinous rice with coconut and chicken floss ($5). Strong aromatic at work here from the floss to be eaten together with the glutinous rice ball

The top layer is custard made of kaya, coconut cream and Pandan that’s of a creamy consistency that lends sweetness to the sticky glutinous rice with blue pea extract and coconut milk. Apparently this is the offspring of Chalk farm and it is the same as Chalk Farm’s famous kueh salat. Perfect with a cup of tea for the lazy afternoon.

As expected of milk moon, the pandan flavour was really profound. The cake had a nice crumbly texture and yet wasn't too heavy at the same time. Worth a try!

Many thanks to cake club for hosting and burpple for the invite!

Honestly was a little skeptical about how good this Kueh Salat ($5.80) would be considering that I've never (yet) come across such a price tag for the delicious traditional kueh.

The one at Milk Moons/Chalk Farm is a two-tier slice of cake consisting of beautiful butterfly pea flower glutinous rice under a bed of luscious green coconut and pandan kaya custard. The overall taste is really rich yet not cloying, and the balanced ratio of custard to rice makes each bite all the more delectable and irresistable for one more bite till it is all gone! 🤤

With the pretty outstanding quality and relatively large and thick size, I have to admit $5.80 sounds pretty worth paying for this delicate looking yet firm and substantial kueh salat! 👍
