It is commonly found inĀ Singapore and Malaysia. It is also one of my favourites local dish! The coconut rice is always so flavorful and addictive especially when it comes with hot sambal chilli sauce.
.
Featuring the Nasi Lemak from @penangchiakholiao The fried chicken drumstick was very tender in the inside and crispy on the outside. It also comes with half a hard Boiled Egg, Ikan Billis and Peanuts. I topped up for the otah. Their chilli sauce is not that spicy which is perfect for me.

My re-visit to Penang Chiak Ho Liao for no fuss Penang delights ...

This is a slightly variant from the sweeter type sambal mee goreng that we usually eat .

This mee goreng was more savoury and had an interesting addition of moist potatoes , juicy beancurd cubes and crushed peanuts.

Overall an enjoyable dish and very generous portions for 3.50.

I like the affordability of this nasi lemak Set.
The rice , Ilan Billis and chicken šŸ— was a mere 3.50.

For an optional add on of steamed otah , it is an additional 1.20.

The chicken was moist but slightly under -seasoned on the inside .

A pretty decent plate of nasi lemak and the homemade sambal was tasty without being too salty .

My only gripe is the rice - a rather short grain rice was used and the rice was rather soft and lacked the coconut fragrance .

Would have preferred a slightly stiffer rice ( maybe even basmati ) and perhaps more aroma for the rice .

This stall serves nyonya style nasi lemak with options of chicken wing or chicken leg set ($4). I chose the former, and the overall taste is not bad. The rice is fragrant, chicken wing is pretty tasty with the rempah spices, while the chilli is the sweet kind. They also serve other dishes like mee goreng & chee cheong fun too.

Ho Liao Nasi Lemak Chicken Leg Set ($4)
.
This stall at chinatown food centre totally threw me off course my initial lunch plan. I just can’t seem to resist nasi lemak stalls. Even more so when this place is named Penang Jiak Ho Liao. The otah is an addon. I love the rice and the runny egg. The chicken was well cooked and coated with a fragrant rempah and felt rather similar to coconut club’s rendition except that it was missing the finesse and the chicken skin could be tastier but overall still an acceptable find to satiate nasi lemak cravings

So you can’t imagine how surprised I was today when I stumbled upon a stall in Chinatown Complex which sells authentic Penang fare such as this mee goreng with sotong. It’s the real deal. Fried with a thick, spicy, peanuty sauce and topped sotong, and a good squeeze of calamansi, this is the best SGD4 I have spent. So good and worth every single calorie. This newly opened stall called Chiak Ho Liao is helmed by a young couple, John and Francesca. It’s stall unit 2-182. Can’t wait to go back to have the nasi lemak and Penang style Chee Cheong Fun
