[Halal Thai Steamboat Buffet]

Check out Halal Thai steamboat hidden in the lower deck of this hawker centre. It’s the first Halal Thai steamboat in Singapore. We had buffet option which was priced at S$22 per pax with 2 hours time limit. If the time limit is too stressful for you, there’s also set and ala carte versions available. The All-you-can-eat buffet menu may looked limited and did not include seafood items but for the 2 of us we were too full to cover all. Although it’s located in the hawker centre, the place was quite cooling with lots of fan around. Selected chicken broth as the choice of soup base, which was quite savoury on its own. Another option available was Tom Yum. Don’t forget to generously coat the skillet with beef fat before cooking. Beef tongue was an uncommon item for steamboat but the texture was interesting. The NZ Premium Beef may looked quite fatty before cooking but it simply tasted so yummy on its own. There’s also 2 types of spicy dips available to go with the food. We visited the outlet on a weekday night and we could see a continuous flow of customers. As we were seated near the stall, it was easy to get refill for broth, gas, and sauce. We ended the meal with instant noodle and beaten egg in the soup. So shiok!

Service- to the expectation level of what you’d get in a hawker centre- was prompt & polite by most of the staff, curt by one of them.

Pro-tip: Sit near their stall (#01-08) to replenish the soup & sauces. Even better if you’re near the sink to wash your hands 🙃

I ordered 2 rounds of food & that was enough. Was given an order sheet to fill up at the start, but for the 2nd round I was given a blank sheet of paper to write out my full order (referencing the laminated menu)…

“You’re not gonna order like 10 items, right?”, I was told.

I could’ve. But didn’t feel like it.

Thanks Scale Microinfluencers for the invite.

🍲 2 soup base choices: Chicken/Tom Yum

🚶🏻‍♀️ Soup refills are self-service at the storefront

🌶️ 2 options for sauces: Chilli & garlic soy sauce; also self-service

↙️ Located on the ground floor of Berseh Food Center, which wasn’t overwhelmingly crowded on a Friday night

Thanks Scale Microinfluencers for the invite.

🍴 They have a la carte options, but Scale Microinfluencers had reached out to me on this "promotional" invite where I’d get 50% off their buffet price (U.P. $22/pax)

🥩 Decent variety of meat: Chicken & beef options. Seasoned ones (garlic/teriyaki) were flavour-bombs, & I ordered a mix of plain & seasoned ones for balance

😛 If the Beef Tongue doesn’t sell out for the night - you’re lucky! I love beef tongue so much; not enough places in Singapore serve it

🦐 Seafood options are available on the a la carte menu, but are excluded from buffet menu

Thanks Scale Microinfluencers for the invite.

TIL: "Mookata" loosely translates from Thai to mean 'pork' & 'skillet'… But Sedap Thai is technically a Thai Halal steamboat, so you can’t call it a Mookata joint 🙏🏻

📱 My >24hour-in-advance booking wasn’t registered by whoever mans their WhatsApp system, & that caused some tension when I arrived. The infamous "Chinese guy with a man bun" (go read their Google reviews) rapped on my phone rudely when I showed him my confirmation, instead of using his words to tell me that the SOP is to book only the day of, before 4pm. I mean I assumed "okie" means confirmed. But maybe my English isn't so good ☠️

.. But it worked out fine in the end, in that I was served within the 15-min wait they said I'd have to put up with (since I "didn't have" a booking).

🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not actually sure if reservations are encouraged or mandatory for regular diners

Thanks Scale Microinfluencers for the invite.

Had a wonderful chance to eat at @thaisedap recently, and their halal Thai steamboat is pretty fantastic!

Their buffet option ($22) boasts multiple meat options like chicken and beef and they also have a huge variety of other ingredients such as cheese balls and turkey ham.

1 of their marinated meats that we loved was the teriyaki chicken, which was very tender and well seasoned with a sweet and savoury sauce that is really addictive! Another meat ingredient that we loved is the premium NZ beef cut, which was incredibly fatty and had the natural rich sweetness.

Thank you @thaisedap and @scalemicroinfluencers for the opportunity to have this!

Price: SGD 20 for a Platter for 2; Add on $1.30 for Maggi

The Platter for 2 consists of these 15 items: Garlic Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, Fresh Beef Slice, Minced Beef, Prawn, Sotong, Quail Eggs, Chicken Egg, Beef Ball, Chicken Ball, Chicken Hot Dog, Crab Stick, Vegetable Basket, and Tang Hoon. The portion is definitely enough to feed 2-3 people.

Initially, I thought they only serve Chicken Soup Base as I read the other reviews and well, there are quite a number of people who feedback --- 'What is Thai Mookata without Tom Yum Soup?' And I totally agree with them. But hey, they do actually serve Tom Yum Soup Base now! So I guess they do actually take customers' feedback very seriously!

Although I really wanted to have Tom Yum, my bf can't really take spicy and so I thought it's best that we go with Chicken Soup Base. And I was not disappointed at all because the food went so well with their sauces. They had this thai sweet and sour sauce that had garlic, chilli padi and a shrimp flavour to it. If you are there, you must have the sauce!

Our virgin halal mookata experience was perfect. Thank you Sedap Thai 💕 We will definitely visit again and perhaps try the Tom Yum Soup Base!

P.S. Sorry for the ugly photo, I didn't manage to take a good one! We were starving and the food was good 😭

For a no-frills mookata experience, look no further than this nondescript stall at Berseh Food Centre in Jalan Besar. Affordably priced at $20 for two, the mookata set at this Halal-certified stall includes a meat and seafood platter, a veggie basket with vermicelli noodles, and two bowls of rice — definitely most value for money! The meat platter comes with a selection of prawns and marinated chicken and beef, so you get a little of everything. The only gripe most have is that they only serve one broth — chicken, with no option for spicy tom yum. If you feel unsatisfied, you can always do as Burppler Alvin Wang did and order a la carte meats to add on for a feast.

The food tasted way nicer than my picture. The mixed platter that you can order for $20 comes in good variety but not so much in quantity, but it's a good choice if you want a little of everything. When we added the ala-carte meats though, the portions were generous. Really enjoyed the garlic chicken and the sliced beef. I think they have a different branch at Woodlands but it seems like it's super crowded there, so this is definitely a good choice if you are looking for Mookata that is halal! (Rating:😬)

For a BBQ steamboat experience, it was worth the price for 2 pax! 👍🏼 Affordably priced at $20/- it included a meat and seafood platter, veggie basket with vermicelli noodles & two bowls of rice. It also came with what i believe was chicken stock soup, in a kettle! This added a flavoursome taste with the veggies. The Chilli sauce provided was real good too! Meat was tender and delicious. However, the most disappointing part of my dining experience was not having Thai Tom Yum soup!?!??!?! ( 😟😵 ) No Thai cuisine would ever be complete without it.... (Same goes with not having iced Thai milk tea! But that's besides the point) I figured we would be given the option of choosing our soup bases but no, the chicken stock soup was fixed to the entire menu. It was a real shame; I felt not having the Thai Tom Yum soup was a real bummer and it didn't really complete my first ever Thai BBQ steamboat experience. It would have probably made my experience more wholesome and fulfilling with it :)

For the price of $20 for a serving for 2 people, you get a platter of meat (chicken and beef - black pepper or plain), some seafood, vegs, balls and sausages as well as tang hoon with chicken soup. I could not get enough of the beef and ended up ordering more. The sauce the accompanies the food items is good too. Overall it was an awesome gastronomical experience of delicious food in a hawker centre.

Just for $20 you get a taste of the different beef and chicken slices, fishballs and vege.
