We pre-ordered @starterlab.sg awhile back when Phase 2 had first started! We got their open-faced posh toasts and sandwiches to go for a weekend brunch!
First up we had the ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐, ๐๐๐ฅ๐ง๐ฎ๐ญ & ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ฒ (๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ฒ) $๐๐, which was generously lathered spread on the toast. The drizzle of honey really brought out the mascarpone, which was light and creamy. We really enjoyed the contrast in flavours and gobbled it up super quickly hehe. ๐
Next, we had the ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐๐ฌ๐ (๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ฒ) $๐๐. Stuffed thick with 3 different cheeses (swipe to the last pic for the cross section), this was one of the best grilled cheeses we had!
Overall, we really enjoyed the toasts butโฆ the price tag was a biiiiit steep. Is it really worth paying $19 for a grilled cheese? #lifequestions I guess we might return if weโre craving their sandwiches.
Growing up in SF (aka in my humble opinion the โจCAPITALโจ of sourdough) I can state really confidently that Starter Lab does sourdough the BEST in Singapore. Although their products are definitely on the pricier side, they are really able to deliver in terms of tanginess and their crumb has a great moist texture too. As someone who makes sourdough at home, I always have a tough time to achieve the tang in Singapore and will always come here for my bread fix when I miss the tang.
Pictured here are two of their tartines. The mascarpone tartine with the honey and bee pollen was amazing but being more of a savoury person I loved the ricotta tartine with roasted tomato and the balsamic vinegar glaze because it has that balance of rich, tang, sweet, and savoury. But both are definitely amazing in their own right.

With the bakery craze of 2020, sourdough and the like are hitting homes like hot cakes. The sourdough here has great flavor and depth and is well made. The cheese doesnโt feel too heavy with the drizzle of honey over and lots of crunch. My only gripe is that they over toasted the bread making the edges almost impossible to chew or bite off.

Monster has always been a big fan of sourdough
the honey mascarpone toast is really good ! and the Starter Lab 3 cheese๐๐ผโจ๐ฃ
Mortadella Sandwich ($18) (house-made mayo and elemental on focaccia) I like level of thickness for ham inside focaccia and tbh it got that fullness for brunch.
Country Sourdough Bread (whole) ($18) I felt that it's was quite much sour aftertaste and got that heaviness of bread's weight.
