Headed to Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff intending to get their YAM PUFFS as I was craving for them, only to realise that for the whole month of September 2023, they will only be selling yam mooncakes, and no puffs for the upcoming mooncake festival season!

Contemplated for a long time before I got 2 pieces of yam mooncake with single yolk (1 piece retails for $10.50)! This is actually not my first time eating their yam mooncakes! Have eaten it before!

Love how you can buy just one piece here, not in a fixed box of 4! Their mooncakes are also packed in paper boxes, so you know you are not spending extra $ for the extravagant mooncake packaging that most other mooncake sellers are doing.

Crispy flaky skin with fragrant yam! πŸ’œ

However, if you are getting this with the original intention of getting the yam puff, I think it is better to just wait till the next month to get the yam puffs ($1.6-$1.80 only) haha!

This place makes very crispy and flaky puffs stuffed with a generous amount of fillings. The puff comes in four flavours - Curry, Sardine, Black Pepper and Yam Paste. The puffs come with a beautiful golden brown colour and they are not very oily. The yam paste puff was good and creamy while the curry puff was mild in flavour but was filled with chunks of chicken and potatoes. Although there isn’t a queue, there was a waiting time of 45mins when we placed our order so do place your orders beforehand if you are planning to have a meal at the hawker.

Crispy Curry / Yam Paste Puff 》$1.40 Each

Intricate hand made puffs, but filling was a little watery and curry too mild

Guess what is my favourite mooncake? Teochew flaky yam mooncake! Yep, I don't really fancy snowskin mooncakes and baked skin mooncakes. Besides baked walnut mooncake, this is my favourite! But usually I don't buy them because they are soooo expensive. If you are looking around for a cheaper alternative, do check this out! Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff stall at old airport road sells teochew flaky yam mooncake during midautumn festival! During these few weeks, they only sell pre-order yam mooncakes (call 9090 7009).The normal chicken curry puff/ yam puff aren't sold now! These teochew flaky yam mooncake are sold at $8/ piece for without yolk $8.5 for with yolk. I must say this is one of the most value for money option I have seen in the market! (Although I was thinking how the flaky skin and its yam filling are actually quite similar to their normal yam puff which is sold for only $1.4! Lol with the addition of salted egg yolk and a bit more yam, it is $8+ now! But if you are looking to buy some mooncakes as gifts and do not want to break a huge hole in the wallet plus get decent tasting mooncakes, you should check this place out!)

Reached there at 6pm and managed to snip off their curry puff. Mega love for their pastry skin that is so so crispy and flaky, just like how i love it! It is still piping hot when i bite into the puff, the generous fillings has got visible chicken meat and potato chunks. Definitely recommended and will be back for their taro puff next time!

Priced between $1.40 and $1.60, these local snacks are as satisfying gastronomically as they are aesthetically.
Made by hand in small batches by the couple who operates this hawker stall in Old Airport Road Food Centre (they work really long days, beginning at 6.30am and ending around 5.30pm), the crispy puffs are an irresistible combination of a deepfried crust formed by layers of thin, flaky pastry, and delicious fillings that, in the case of the savoury options, are wetter than most.
My mum loves their classic curry chicken and potatoes, but I am partial to the sardine myself as it has a refreshing note of lime that vanquishes fishiness. The black pepper chicken is not a commonly found filling which is why it has its fans.
For those with a sweet tooth, you might be interested in giving their crispy yam puff a try.
