📍Yatkayan, Fortune Centre📍
💸 Yammy chendol: $5.50
💸 Almond & beancurd barley: $3.50
Yet another gem💎 tucked away in fortune centre, we always head to yatkayan for dessert after eating at A9, it's almost like a routine now! Had their famed chendol with orh nee which was really the best of both worlds👯. The orh nee paste was savoury and super smooth, which went well with the sweet and refreshing chendol🍧. The only downside was that the chendol melts super fast we couldn't slowly take our time to enjoy. Also ordered the almond and beancurd barley, a dessert we had often when we were young☺️. Apart from these, do give their homemade pastes a try as well! Overall, really recommend yatkayan for it's homely ambience and quality desserts✌️

Super generous with the ingredients and the shop was constantly full despite on a weekday evening. Very friendly staff too 😊

Getting the best of both worlds, Yat Ka Yan’s Yammy Chendol ($5.50) was a heaping pile of sweet and surprisingly savoury goodness. The subtle flavour of the shallot oil infused perfectly into the smooth orh nee. A tad odd at first but after a good mix, the addition of the yam made the combination much more luxe in both taste and texture. The fragrance from the caramel-y lashings of gula melaka, sweet red beans, and cool coconut milk were also able to meld well with the earthiness of the yam. And just as shiok as I remembered, the chendol providing that heady yet delicate taste of pandan is still my favourite part of the dessert.

Priced at $5, one gets to choose their signature hot dessert and 2 other recommended hot desserts. The desserts are all made less sweet and service was pretty good even though they can be packed. Would return to try their other desserts!

Hadn’t been visiting them in a long while; and kinda bummed about it too considering that they have changed their operating hours to open at 1:30pm instead of 12 noon — an timing that makes it extremely difficult to visit during weekday lunches when I return to office.

When back to having the traditional Chinese pastes after ordering the Yam Paste offerings for the last few visits because the craving has been lingering for quite a while since. Still as good as ever; the Walnut & Sesame Paste is smooth and creamy as it was back then without being overly sweet — the walnut carrying a nutty flavour while the sesame compliments it perfectly with a roasty, earthy flavour without being distinctively gritty when compared against the walnut paste, giving it a consistent texture throughout.

Pretty heartened that this spot is no longer a hidden secret, despite the fact making it a spot that feels harder to visit than before — the place being still crowded with a queue when we made our visit at around 8pm to 9pm on a weekend; also probably speaks about why they moved their operating hours to start the day later. Have always been impressed by what they have to offer; still glad that they are dishing out well-executed Chinese desserts from the heart whilst being still friendly to their patrons — which explains why they are now very much appreciated by most whom have turned into their regulars. Very glad to have seen them come so far!

Orh nee 5/5 must order
- not too sweet
- a mixture of orh nee paste and bite size yam

Chendol 5/5 👍👍
- Green pandan jelly (5/5) super flavourful

Tang Yuan 5/5 (additional topping $0.50/pc)
- comes with a lil cheng tng soup

Almond paste 3.5/5
- As someone who is a fan of Almond milk & Almond paste, i was hoping that the taste of almond would be stronger. Can definitely find better ones elsewhere.

Sesame paste 4/5
- (not a fan of sesame paste) but their sesame paste had a v strong sesame flavour to it. Not too sure if sesame paste lovers would enjoy this as much as i did though.

Walnut paste 3/5
- (not a fan of walnut paste too)
- no comments. Was never sure how walnut paste should taste like

Will definitely be back
