Smoked Chicken Breast | Leeks | Mayonnaise | Scallions | Balsamic
Creamy smoked chicken pizza served on hand-pulled, wood fired pizza. It looked rather disappointing, with pretty measly portions of meat. The smoked chicken was thinly sliced - so thin that it appeared ham-like. I was expecting chicken chunks. Being so thinly sliced and sparsely spread out in the pizza also meant that there wasnât any âsmoked chickenâ taste nor bites from the chicken. It was rather disappointing. The cream, and the leeks were pretty good tho! But⊠would I pay $28 for leek, mayo pizza? Probably notâŠ
Thicc, chocolatey coffee drink with the right notes of coffee bean and chocolate. We enjoyed the fruity, orange-y notes. Seldom do we find a cafe serving up good orange mocha!
Met standards but nothing particularly exceptional. Itâs hard to go wrong with truffle isnt it? The aroma of truffle was wafted through as soon as the dish was served. There was sufficient truffle cream sauce to envelope every pasta strand. It was delightful, tho nothing exceptionally wowww about it
Sautéed Smoked Duck | Sriracha Cream | Mozzarella | Mayonnaise | Scallions
Thick cut fries fried in duck fat, then top- loaded with mayo, melted mozzarella and sriracha cream nicely blended into a creamy mix. There were some stretchy bits but there wasnât any prominent taste of cheese. I guess itâs kinda masked by the sriracha sauce. For those we canât take spicy foods, worry not! It wasnât spicy at all âŠ
1 small soft shell crab fried tempura style, served with linguini doused in tomato based sauce. Seafood-y enough for fans of seafood. I would have appreciated it a lilâ more if it wasnât tomato-based!
A decent bake from Honolulu and would have been my go-to if not for the fact that the creamy chicken pie, polo egg tart and charsiew polo pau completely outshone this good olâ traditional favourite.
New breakfast item, this looked great on the adverts, but unfortunately, didnât taste as good. The wholemeal bagel was slightly too dense for my liking. The egg was great, so was the melt-y cheese. However, due to the thick/density of the bagel, the savouriness from the egg and melted cheese didnât seem to taste prominent - pretty much âmaskedâ by the thick doughy bagel. I was pleasantly surprised with the shrooms tho! Was half expecting it to taste like canned shrooms but glad to know that it was better than expected! Pretty much looks like the kind that you get from a proper big breakfast ordered from a cafe.
Sliced beef sauteed with onions, capsicum, sous vide egg with demi glaze on English muffins with feta cheese and argula salad
This is by far the prettiest open-faced sandwich that Iâve seen thus far. Not to be mistaken for the good olâ traditional eggs benny, this was simply an artsy open-faced sandwich on toasted panini. The marinated steak shreds were sufficiently umami, with mild sweetness and crunch from the red capsicums. Tasting this with eyes closed, this could well be mistaken for a chinese wok-fry beef shreds. The sous vide egg did a great job and âglueingâ up the shredded beef and panini muffins. Overall, a pleasantly satiating dish. Served with a side salad
Duck confit, Japanese cucumber and chives wrapped in crepe served with balsamic glaze, truffle and argula salad
I was swoon over by arteas-tiq (pun intended) presentation of the peking duck roll. My first thought: hooray to a fuss-free, mess-free version of the peking duck! Itâs all rolled up and nicely and sliced into bite size versions- no need to get your hands dirty at all! The best part? Iâm probably paying a fraction of the price I otherwise would have if I had to order a full peking duck to satisfy any peking duck cravings. Taking in the first bit, I could taste the hoisin sauce and crisp cucumber. It was refreshing, yet and umami. I like how the egg crepe was done perfect - nothing like rubbery tapes or prata thatâs been left out for long in the open. The disappointment tho - was that there isnât any crispy peking duck skin (too much to expect for something at this price point I guess!) and the shredded duck was a tad too salty for my liking. Would I order this again? Probably not, tho itâs an overall well executed dish and probably one of the less common items from a typical cafe fare
I canât rave enough about the polo egg tart! I was apprehensive when my sister told me sheâd bought 9 (yes, 9!) polo egg tarts from Honolulu because they were âdarn goodâ. Well, I could only say that itâs true and not at all overrated. The polo dome was buttery and in some ways, flaky and yet solid at the same time - there isnât too much of a mess when you bite into the egg tart. I like how the buttery polo dome was so aromatic and not too dense. Within the golden dome lies the creamy, custardy egg custard. My mother could stop raving about the egg custard, citing how âsmoothâ it is. Compared to open-faced egg tarts, the extra creaminess of the egg custard is likely due to the polo dome that âshelteredâ the egg custard from the heat during the baking process. This is certainly not the cheapest egg tart around town but definitely worth every penny - just think of the amount of labour that goes into perfecting the dome and baking! This makes the perfect breakfast with a cup of hot milk tea
Yet another one of the best sellers, this is also a must-try. Best served heated! I popped this into the air fryer for a quick heat-up and the short wait was rewarded with a crusty, golden polo shell. I canât quite decide to call this a meal, or a post meal dessert. The crusty polo shell was extremely flaky (well, after some heat treatment from the oven) and drops all over with each bite. So eat with caution! I like how the polo bun was not at all dense and in fact, light and fluffy - youâll know what Iâm talking about if youâve been disappointed biting into thiccc doughy bread - âpolo charsiew breadâ from no-fuss, neighbourhood bakeries. I can only say, you pay for what you get! The charsiew here is pretty legit too! Pretty chunky charsiew bits in red hues - some may say that itâs all colouring but oh well - Iâm not too fuss about it.
Another option from the rather huge and decent selection of value lunch sets, the raw fish here were fresh and delightful. Nothing exceptionally âwowâ tho. This was served with salad, miso soup and fruits on the side. The fruits were unfortunately not freshly cut - they came right out of a can. Ie. canned syrup-y fruits that Iâd rather do without.
