Got this Bean Curd + Aiyu Jelly with Black Pearl and Taro Balls deal on Shopback.
Bean curd was good. Silky and soya goodness.
Aiyu jelly was good and firm.
Black pearl was disappointing as it was not as chewy as I had expected.
Taro balls even more disappointing as it wasn't chewy. Maybe that's how it's suppose to be like. But you can taste the slight matcha, sweet potato and yam flavours from them.
Overall the base of beancurd and aiyu jelly was good while the toppings weren't so good.
Came here with my friend and got their Mix & Match 3 Course Set Meals for 2 pax which consists of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts.
We ordered their Salad de Paris, Beef Meatball, Signature Half Roasted Chicken, Chicken Aglio Olio Pasta, Milk Pudding and Homemade Mango Pudding.
Salad de Paris consists of garden salad, dried cranberry, cherry tomatoes, avocado, black olive, pine nuts and French dressing. Garden salad had some vegetables which were wilted. French dressing was slightly acidic and maybe had cranberries in them(?). Pine nuts were roasted so you the flavours of the pine nuts were quite prominent.
Beef Meatball consists of 6 meatballs with a choice of cranberry or Diane sauce. We got the Diane sauce which taste similar to a brown sauce. Chicken-y and savoury. Not bad, similar to IKEA.
Signature Half Roasted Chicken with a choice of mushroom cream sauce, cranberry sauce or Diane sauce. We had the mushroom cream sauce. Chicken was well cooked, meat wasn't tough. Mushroom cream sauce was quite weird. Did not had a mushroom-y taste. It was quite sweet. Taste kind of like a coconut cream sauce(?). However my friend did enjoy the sauce.
Chicken Aglio Olio consists of spaghetti, shredded chicken, turkey bacon, chili flakes and parmesan cheese. Spaghetti was well cooked. Chicken and bacon were ok. Pasta seasoning was on point, pretty good. Parmesan cheese could have been more generous.
Milk Pudding. Consists of milk pudding, maple syrup and crushed Ritz. Love the milky pudding with the sweet maple syrup and salty Ritz biscuit. Great combination.
Homemade Mango Pudding. Mango pudding, mango sauce and mango bits. Honestly mango taste wasn't as pronounce as I like. Also there were only two pieces of mango.
Ordering is easy. Menu and iPad are placed on the table. Once you're good just key in your orders in the iPad, comfirm it and wait for your food to be served. Overall not a bad place to dine in. Food is not bad.
Went here with my friends for lunch. We ordered Hot and Sour Soup with Si Chuan Pickles Noodle and Tomato Soup with Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Noodle.
For the Hot and Sour Soup with Si Chuan Pickles Noodle ($13.90), soup was quite good. Tasty and slightly numbing. Si Chuan Pickle was a little too sour for my liking. Beef was ok. Egg was also ok.
Tomato Soup with Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Noodle ($13.50). Tomato soup was ok, could have used more seasoning. Ebiko Prawn Paste was a disappointment. I had better Ebiko prawn paste before so when I saw this on the menu I was so excited. Felt that the Ebiko Prawn Paste could have used more seasoning and more Ebiko. The texture was also quite soft. Noodle for both were also softer than what I prefer but ok.
Overall not really worth the price unless you go for their lunch promo which starts from $9.90 for 1 main, 1 side (any that's $3 and below) and 1 drink.
They had a promotion on their fun box (10 pcs churros and 3 dips/ toppings of your choice) from 12pm-2pm for $5.
The churros were freshly fried upon order. Crispy on the outside and most on the inside. Really nice.
For their dips/ toppings they have 15 options to choose from. We went with Salted Caramel, Maple Syrup and Butterscotch.
Salted caramel had a weird taste and sadly wasn't salty enough. Maple syrup was ok, nothing can go wrong with plain maple syrup. Butterscotch was ok I guess. Buttery and sweet and slightly better than the salted caramel. Honestly didn't like any of the dips. Maybe I should have went with milk chocolate.
Overall really good churros but dips were so so. I guess you really have to choose wisely.
Bought a deal from Shopback which consist of Yuan Yang Milk Tea with Black Pearls ($2.80, so I saved $2).
Went there at 12.15pm and the lady just opened the shop so the pearls were not yet ready. Got it swapped to Coconut Jelly instead.
Yuan Yang Milk Tea was good. Ratio of coffee to tea was just nice. I ordered 25% sweetness which was just right. Coconut jelly went well with the drink, maybe cause it didn't had any coconut taste. I liked that it was chewy as well.
Overall for $2.80 I might consider getting it if I was at that mall but for $4.80, it's just not worth.
Came during off peak hours with my friend for lunch.
Ordered their lunch set which comes with free Miso soup, salad and a drink.
The Miso soup was good. Flavourful and not too salty with lots of kelp and some tofu. Salad was good too. Lettuce, corn and red onions topped with sesame dressing. A classic dressing that never fails. For my drink I ordered their milk tea which was great. The sweetness was just nice and the tea was smooth.
Now on to the Extreme Tendon Set which consists of battered prawns, chicken, white fish, egg, pumpkin and long beans on a bed of rice, drizzled with their tendon sauce. I like how the batter was crispy and not too thick. They also gave more of their sweet and thick tendon sauce to dip the tempura in them. Among all the tempura, I felt the white fish tasted the best as it was moist and well seasoned. Chicken breast on the other hand was a little tough. Long beans were quite good, though a little stringy. Egg was a little of a disappointment as there was no flow-y yolk.
Really enjoyed my meal. However my friend ordered their sushi and was disappointed with their overcooked and slightly mushy rice. Also we did wait quite some time before we could settle our bill due to manpower shortage.
Overall choose wisely what you eat at there as their standard varies.
Came here with my friend as she wanted me to try their Mazesoba which she highly recommends.
I followed her recommendation and the both of us ordered the Taiwan Mazesoba Nagoya Style. All of their Mazesoba comes with a cup of paitan soup and free noodle upsize.
The Taiwan Mazesoba Nagoya Style consist of ramen topped with minced meat, shredded nori (seaweed), lots of spring onion and a half boiled egg. Ramen was well cooked and did not stick together. Minced meat was juicy, flavourful and slightly spicy. How you eat this Mazesoba is that you mix the noodles and ingredients all together. You can also add a spoonful of vinegar and chilli oil for more kick. What you get is a creamy bowl of ramen goodness.
There's also a cup of paitan soup. It's a thick, cloudy soup that similar to pork broth. My friend says it's like a palate cleanser for you to drink. The soup honestly tasted like an under seasoned chicken broth but the more you drink, the more the flavours get to you.
Also after you've finished your noodles and have some ingredients left over, you can request for free rice. Super worth it for those who have a huge appetite. There's also free flow of cold roasted tea which the servers top-up quite often.
Nowadays there are many Build Your Own(BYO) donburi stall and I decided to order food delivery from this place. (1 Carbo + 1 Vegetable + 1 Add-on + 1 Sauce)
For delivery they only offer Japan rice. So I got that with their Signature Beef Chuck Tender($12.70), Broccoli with Seasoning, Salmon Miso Soup and Mentaiko Sauce.
Their Japan rice is short grain rice with some spring onions, seaweed strips and white sesame seeds.
Their beef was flavourful and not too dry and doused with a slight sweet and savoury sauce.
Broccoli with Seasoning was disappointing. What I got were 2 pieces of broccoli that tasted like they were blanched in water. That's how plain it was. I do feel that they could have given more broccoli.
Salmon Miso Soup consisted of 1 piece of salmon, a slice of tunip, kelp and tofu. Tasted good without being overly salty but I do find the tunip a little weird with the soup and the texture of it was still quite firm, not soft like those you get in stews.
Their Mentaiko Sauce is spicier than what you would usually find. Wouldn't recommend it to people who can't take spicy stuff. Also I felt that the spiciness overpowers the sweet umami-ness of the mentaiko.
Overall it was a good meal and they give a good amount of rice and beef with sides which actually justifies the price that they charge.
For Set B: Chicken what you get is:
•Nasi Lemak (Blue Pea Rice / Classic White Rice) OR Fried BeeHoon
•Choice of 4 Varieties of Sambal – Classic, Hijau(Green), XO, or XO Hot
•Fried Egg or Omelette
•Achar
•Choice of chicken – Ayam Merah/ Gulai/ Cili Padi
The blue Pea Rice looks unique, my first time having blue Pea Rice. But I would say their rice could be more fragrant and coconut-y.
So they have 4 different kinds of sambal. Classic being the least spicy and XO Hot and Hjiau being the spiciest. Tried their XO sambal made with dried shrimps and it wasn't that spicy, more like what you usually get at most Nasi Lemak stalls. Slight spicy and sweet. Moving on to the XO Hot which contains dried shrimps, it's a sambal that is about 2 times spicier than the XO sambal. The first bite packs a punch and the heat immediately hits you. Quite nice for those who love their chili. Next up on my plate was the Hijau which instead of dried shrimps uses ikan bilis. I felt that it wasn't as spicy as the XO Hot. It was more towards the salty side but spicer than the XO sambal. So if you like spicy but yet can't really take the heat, the Hijau sambal is a good choice.
For my chicken, I chose Ayam merah which is chicken cooked in a red tomato-y sauce. I like how the chicken was tender. The sauce also was good. Sweet and flavourful. A good Ayam merah.
Overall everything in the Nasi Lemak was good but the rice could be better. Also if you do not want to get their custom set, you could get the ala carte where you can choose whatever you like.
Came here cause I had cravings for 串串 (skewered items).
Ordered their 自制酸梅汤 Sour plum juice ($4). Served in a jug, about 4 serving. Juice was quite sweet, a little artificial and wasn't as sour as I had expected.
Next up the food (minimum of 2 sticks for food $2 and below). The food was actually not spicy and more on the salty side so you could opt for more chili if you're the kind that loves spicy food. Here's what we had:
Grilled chicken feet ($1). Seasoning was ok but feet was quite chewy.
Grilled mutton kebab ($1). Mutton smell wasn't too strong and seasoning was ok.
Grilled beef kebab ($1). Beef was ok.
Grilled beef tendon ($2). Tendon was very chewy and needed more seasoning.
Grilled sausage ($1.50). Chinese pink sausage was sweet and had a good bite.
Grilled pork intestine ($1.50). Intestine had a slight smell, were a little chewy and were skewered with green chili slices. Could have used more seasoning.
Grilled pig kidney ($1). Didn't like it as I prefer mine slightly undercook but my friend found it ok.
Grilled chicken heart ($1). Good. Seasoned just nice.
Grilled chicken gizzard ($1). Good with a slight chewiness.
Grilled chicken kebab ($1). Tender chicken with good seasoning.
Grilled stinky tofu ($2). Tofu with a crispy skin and a slight stinky tofu taste.
Grilled chives ($2). Good but a little too salty.
Grilled baked mushroom ($1). Oyster mushrooms that were a little too salty.
Grilled mushroom ($1). Shiitake mushrooms that felt a little too oily.
Grilled needle mushroom ($4). Enoki mushroom that were seasoned just nice.
There's also a $0.30 charge for the dry and wet tissues. So just go ahead and use the tissues provided.
What I like about China food establishment is that they usually have this point system where you can use your points accumulated to redeem "free" stuff from their menu.
Came around 1pm and there was a queue. When it was our turn the waitress took our order first while waiting for a table to clear, which is good as it helps reduce the waiting time for the food.
Ordered the Millefeuille Pancake 4 Pieces ($7.90). Pancakes were soft, light, slightly eggy and fluffy. Similar to souffle pancakes. Topped with butter and cream. They also provide maple syrup at the side so you can pour as much as you like.
Strawberry and Mixed Berry Pancake 2 Pieces ($11.90)- Tangy strawberry, mixed berries and rich Hokkaido cream complement each other perfectly. Pancakes were also fluffy. The acidity of the berries really help to balance the sweetness of the cream.
Also added a drink set (+$3.50) which are applicable to all drink $4.50 and below. Got the coke and the coke was served in a glass without much effervescent.
Overall a good place for souffle-like pancakes.
Saw so many good reviews about so I had to try it.
Bought two of their Shrimp Paste Wing. The first thing that hits you is the strong smell of the shrimp paste. Biting into it you get this crisp and light batter with the chicken that's quite tender. Really good however taste-wise the shrimp paste taste could be stronger. Maybe this batch wasn't marinated long enough? Also it was a quite oily. Their chili is similar to what you get from a chicken rice stall but a little spicier. Cucumber is also a good addition on the plate that helps add some freshness.
Overall not bad, worth trying if you're nearby.
