Pretty good texture to the milk but my stuffy nose couldn't pick up on the flavour profile of the espresso. But i thought this was pretty darn delicious.
a really cosy place with all sorts of furniture, we sat here for a few hours straight just chilling and talking over lunch and cakes! we had a beef burger, l'etoile grilled chicken salad, matcha azuki cake, flat white + earl grey lavender bundt cake (not pictured)
What's better than a super solid zi char place? A super solid zi char place that serves excellent crab! Your meal will not be complete without their prawn paste chicken, and chili or pepper crabs. Come down with a bunch of friends for a nice rowdy catchup and get your hands dirty.
Aptly named, this aromatic head turner exudes a musky-sweet scent similar to that of sheesha (also known as hookah) reminiscent of a stroll down Arab Street. Subtly sweet and floral, this ladies drink is rimmed with sweet and sour sumac powder that enhances its floral notes. Prettily perched on the cocktail is a cloud of pink cotton candy floss sprinkled with marigold and violet flower petals from the garden.
Started off with Salted Egg Fries & Beef Tataki ๐ Ending off the week w good food & good company โบ๏ธ
The only main dish that should be ordered at the dinner. I don't want to describe how amazing it is to have these as a main dish because I'll probably be even hungrier and slightly frustrated that I can't have it right now. Try it for yourself and understand why despite the insane waiting time for a reservation at Teppei, people still make an effort time and time again.
Donut with salted egg dip ($7): donuts tasted pretty much like those which you could easily get from bakeries/four leaves. The salted egg wasn't rich enough in flavor, it wasn't salty enough neither sweet as well. I envision the taste of the fillings of Liu sha bao but it was far from that.... $7 for 6 donuts was a rip off IMHO. Go for the cakes instead, the cacao Barry truffle chocolate cake ($7) was everything I love, the mousse to cake ratio was perfect (I dislike cakes that's entirely made up of mousse even if it's chocolate). The cake was rich yet not cloyingly sweet ๐๐ butterscotch arabica choux ($6): puff pastry filled with chocolate ganache and butterscotch sauce and topped with coffee cream. Photogenic and great tasting at the same time ๐๐
If you haven't tried the Darling's Eggs here, please do yourself a favour and hop on down when you have time. Named after the couple whose cafe in Melbourne the owner of The Plain (and also Ronin) use to work at, the Darling's Eggs is simply very well executed poached eggs on sourdough toast. The sliced sweet tomatoes, melted cheese and ham give this open-faced sandwich wonderful flavours. Pictured above is the half portion which, unless I am starving, is usually enough for me.
Since I am a sucker for avocado, once in a while I'll also cough up $3 more to add some on.
Ivan's Carbina within a coffeeshop located under a multi-storey carpark cam be easily missed, but its menu offers a variety rarely seen in foodcourt western stalls such as Rosti like this one. A large Rosti nicely seasoned in salt is crispy on the exterior, while the sour cream mediates the starchiness being light and refreshing. Chicken was succulent and tender, though the thick and earthy mushroom sauce is slightly let down by its lukewarm temperature. ($7.80)
While the north is generally not known for spectacular food, this Heng Hua restaurant is a hidden gem in Yishun that not only serves tzechar, but also traditional Heng Hua cuisine that is now hard to find in Singapore. Have a taste on Heng Hua Mee Sua Kou; a dish that was said to be made from leftovers from dinner from the previous day to make this delectable rice vermicelli dish in the past. Also, the Stir-Fried Yam Cubes are a must have for its sweetness and chunky cubes of yam. Easties, you ain't missing out much either as they also operate another outlet along Joo Chiat Road
Hidden gem of sembawang, not accessible without own rides. Crispy outer layer and soft inner yellow onion.
