On the quest to find nice Banh Mi in the West of Singapore!

Chanced upon Ba Buông Bánh Mì on google map with quite positive reviews and decided to try it!

Items we tried:
-BBQ Pork
-Shredded Chicken
-Vietnamese Milk Coffee
-Iced Lemon Tea

Between the two, the bbq pork was the clear superior winner! The shredded chicken was very dry and tough, not to my liking. The BBQ Pork was grilled pork balls that was juicer. However, I felt that the Banh Mi as a whole can do with more sauces! Baguette Bun was crispy as I like it too!

Comparing this with my all time favourite at Banh Mi Thit by Star Baguette in Geylang, the latter still triumphs!

Can use CDC voucher here though! If you buy the Banh Mi + drink together, you get some discount.

Be sure to check out their Bonbon, a Korean Specialty dessert shaped as an Eiffel tower!

📍313 Orchard Rd, #B1-37, Singapore 238895

- 辣子鸡: Everyone's favourite sichuan dish! Crispy battered chicken!

-沸腾鱼: This was our first time trying this "Boiled fish fillet in spicy oil" and we were pretty impressed! We requested for less spicy, and the spice level was tolerable for us! There is thick vermicelli in the soup too, which tastes like suan la fen to me! Sliced fish fillet was fresh!

-石锅豆花肥牛: This arrived in a bubbling stonepot! The dish surprised us. We love it so much! Tender meat slices with silken tofu in very aromatic and fragrant green peppercorn broth! Drizzle the broth over your rice and it is comfort food! The default is sliced beef (but if you require, you can ask the staff to change it to pork)

-Iced Lychee Tea and Peach Tea: Their drinks here come with the fruit (lychee/peach) and chewy bubble tea pearls too!

-Chilled Starch Jelly 自制冰粉: End off the spicy numbing meal with some refreshing cooling desserts!

The signature food items recommended here were all super tasty!

-Spinach

Relax for the weekend over at Capybara-themed gelato cafe at @chatters_gelato !

Visited their bedok outlet for a cozy afternoon of sandwich, gelato, waffle, cake and drinks!

Featured here are the following items:
-Build Your Own Waffle Set ($9.90): Mochi Half Waffle + Mochi Half Waffle + Gelato + Fruit of the day (strawberry) + sprinkle topping (Waffle Crisp and Biscoff Crumble) + Topping Sauce (Salted Caramel Sauce)
-For Gelato, we got the best seller Sicilian Pistachio and Toffee Nut
-Classic Tomato Chicken Handmade Sandwich
-Wild Mushroom Soup
-Lemon Yuzu Sparkling Soda
-Cranberry Sweetie Tea

The mushroom soup here was one of the best I have ever eaten! Super velvety creamy thick mushroom soup! Comes with crispy garlic bread too! The sandwich was a very substantial portion, so it is good to share if you are not a big eater! Comes with light and fluffy Milk Toast, hard boil egg, lettuce, tomato salsa and cucumber!

They have manyyyy different gelato flavours for your picking! For the waffle base, they also have different options like the mochi waffle (qq chewy mochi in it), basic waffle, or croffle! The mochi waffle was super QQ chewy in the interior, with crispy exterior!

They have 3 outlets in Singapore! (Do note that the sandwiches and finger food is only avail at the Bedok outlet)

Have went past Licker many times, but finally trying it recently!

They have very reasonably priced waffles! The waffles only cost $5 (+GST), while each scoop of ice cream costs $3 (+GST)! For premium flavours, there is an additional 80 cents.

The waffle is crispy on the outside, and light fluffy on the inside. A side of honey sauce is also given for your own drizzling. Many unique flavours here to try! We got the watermelon passionfruit and oolong lavender! Between the two, I preferred the sourish watermelon passionfruit! Seems like I prefer sour sorbet kind of flavours nowadays! We also got the MR MAO mao shan wang durian flavour (this is SUPREME flavour, $6.50 per scoop)!

Head here for your late night dessert was they are open all the way to 2am!

(Plus u can use CDC vouchers here!)

If you stay in the west, you will be happy to know that DAN LAO has opened a new outlet at Tengah Plantation Plaza!

I have visited the original Maxwell outlet years ago to try it! Tried the Char Siew Rice the previous time. But as I was ordering, we noticed so many customers infront of us getting the luncheon meat / chicken cutlet bowl, so we decided to try the chicken cutlet bowl this time round!

I love the silky scrambled eggs! Best to dine in, else the eggs will become cooked eggs if you take it away. Will be better if more sauce is given for the whie rice! Super love their chilli though, very savoury and got kick one! Fried chicken cutlet was nicely marinated. But if you are trying to avoid fried food in your diet, may be better to try their char siew or prawn bowl instead!

@thesoupspoonsg has a new promotion item on the menu now - daily saver $7.9 set!

For the price of $7.90, you get a small soup (choose from 3 diff soup choices - roasted pumpkin / tangy tomato with basil / meatless minestrone), a side (ham and cheese sandwich or salad) and a drink (3 choices)!

Very value for money! And great if you want more variety for a meal! (Otherwise an ala carte normal soup portion will cost at least $9+.)

Exploring food places in the west brought us to @laifaba 来发吧 !

Visited on a weekend a few minutes right before opening hours, and there was already 3 groups waiting to enter! (We didnt make any reservations earlier as it was an impromptu decision to head there to eat).

This place is famous for their traditional wanton noodles and woodfire-roasted meats! What is special about this place is that you can even choose your meat cut options - lean, mixed or fatty! Seriously, this is the best customisation ever, as I love lean char siew meat! (don't really love the super fatty kind).

The bowl of signature noodle is $12++ though! Kinda expensive if you compare it to coffeeshop/hawker pricing. But if you compare it to tze char restaurant / cafe pricing, this is still relatively cheaper! Springy noodles, sweet caramelised sugar, with crispy fried wanton. The soup also had boiled wantons too! Comes with half a lava egg as well! The chilli sauces are available at each table - normal chilli, extra spicy chilli, or green chilli. Also ordered the taufu meat pocket ($12++) which was quite special!

The restaurant was nicely decked in nostalgic and vintage furniture.

A nice place to come at least once to try out the food!

First time at Vision Exchange area! Didnt know that there were so many restaurnts here!

We tried the korean food at AHTTI Korean Restaurant!

Ordered the following food items:
-Seafood Soft Tofu Soup with Rice - $15++: This was stated as mildly spicy but it turned out to be quite spicy for us, even when we do take spice quite well! Came with egg tofu, clams and a crab. Was looking for prawns in this bowl of soup but sadly there was none
-Stir Fried Squid and Pork Belly with Rice - $15++: Very nicely marinated, and came with PLENTY of sauce (which made it abit slightly salty)

They are actually famous for their fried chicken! However, we found the portions of chicken too much to be shared amongst just 2 pax as a side. So come in a big group if you want to try their fried chicken!

Their menu is also slightly cheaper for lunch time!

If you have been wanting to try @kindkones_sg , now is the time!

They have opened a new outlet at @westgatesg and there is an ongoing buy 1 get 1 scoop free promotion from now till 21 Jul 2024! (Do note the cone is not included in the 1 for 1 offer)

These are the flavours we got:
-Signature Blue Planet: Coconut cashew vanilla base coloured blue with butterfly pea flowers and with fluffy matcha cake!
-Pandan Gula Melaka: Fragrant pandan coconut base with sweet gula melaka swirled in!

Tip: You can also request to taste test the flavours before confirming your flavour selection!

Who else loves claypot chicken rice!

On the search for nice claypot chicken rice in the west. Today, our search brought us to Bao Fa Traditional Food 宝发传统小食 at Bukit Batok!

We called 45mins in advance to place our order for takeaway, so there was no waiting time required! This was the medium size portion ($16) which is enough for 2 -3 pax! The chicken meat was tender and well seasoned! However, as it was a takeaway order, the rice seemed to lack some charcoal claypot wok hei taste. The chilli used here reminds me of those used for chicken rice chilli, spicy and with kick!
