Black sugar pearls were not available when I went there (the staff at the cashier shared with me that black sugar pearls are probably available only next week π), hence I opted for the fruit drinks. Lychee Rose nectar is the recommended drink but the sugar level is fixed, hence I opted for the next drink in the list - lemon rose nectar with 30% sugar ($3.50) π πΉ
I kinda went in blind after reading an online review of the drink stall in Taiwan and just ordered the drink without asking what exactly it is, hence I was kinda surprised when I saw the basil seeds floating at the top of the drink. There is aloe vera at the bottom (I know from the review lol).
I suppose the low sugar level has made the lemon stands out more than the rose (syrup?), and I like that because it is refreshing, as compared to the standard milk teas. And because it has such an extensive menu, it is one drink shop that I would like to have in my neighbourhood (one-north is too far!!)
Oh and they have other types of oolong teas too, like Nantou Mountain Spring and charred oolong. But I still want the black sugar.. π
Stumbled upon this place while searching for nearby cafes on Burpple after discovering that Apartment Coffee is closed for Idk what reasons. Anyway, I'm happy to come here because the cafe is quiet, has couches and some of the couches are by the glass doors/windows so I can people/traffic watch. It felt extra cozy today, probably because it was raining heavily when I arrived at the place.
Ordered a simple flat white even though there are other interesting specialty coffee to try - Irish Coffee! But I wasn't in the mood to try new stuff so maybe I'll try that next time.
There's free WiFi here and no service charge & GST! Definitely a place that I will come back again, to do work or just to curl up on the couch with a good book π
Rose milk tea with white pearls ($2.80), the latest 'Singaporean drink' released, probably in line with the upcoming National Day. But basically it's just bandung with pearls. I can't taste the tea at all, and I can't choose the sugar level. But the pink after mixing is pretty la, just like how bandung look like.
There is like 6-7 slices of sashimi (salmon and maguro) with diced squid and a hearty sprinkle of tobikko (yay to that!). I personally would have preferred the sashimi to be diced so that I can have something to accompany each scoop of rice. But then again, the rice by itself is quite flavourful, with nori, sesame and maybe some furikake? I can eat the rice by itself, even though it would be better if it's not so clumpy. Heck, it might win Sushiro's rice if it was done better.
I also like the yellow pickled radish as it gives the dish some refreshing crunch. The only gripe that I have is that I can't customise my order to remove the wasabi and ginger provided.. A decent dish nonetheless!
When I saw the lemon meringue tart in the display after I ordered my food and drink, I regretted. But because the food wasn't that filling, I decided to #YOLO and order the tart because I love lemon meringue tarts and I would order them whenever I see them in a new cafe.
But sadly, the meringue was not the stiff kind of meringue that I'm used to eating. It was kinda liquid-y, and it came with a small thimble of whiteness which I assumed is sugar because it tasted sweet (yes I didn't try asking the staff again). I would scoop some and put it on the tart.
As for the lemon, it wasn't hardly sour, but then again I can take sour stuff quite well.
All in all, it's the most disappointing lemon meringue tart that I had so far. But if you like it sweet with just that hint of sourness then maybe it's the thing for you.
Burpple you took too long to update your database (went there on 7th June but I can't upload anything because there's no location found)!! A couple of days after I saw that Century Square is open again, I went there to explore (for Hey Long Cha actually haha) and I stumbled upon the pretty cafe! It does have the Korean cafe vibes, with the foresty backdrop + slogan at one side one of the cafe (near the kitchen).
Initially I wanted to try the pasta but I (randomly) decided that I shall have the seafood Cioppino, without even asking the staff what exactly is that. They did ask me if I wanted it with tofu or rolls, and feeling kinda puzzled, I chose tofu #healthierchoice. Imagine the surprise that I had when I realized it's just soup. π
It's quite flavourful, and I imagine that if I had it with the rolls it would be nice eating the rolls soaked with the soup. But then again, because there is no carbs in this soup, I gleefully went for the lemon meringue tart (in next post).
I ordered the hojicha latte because I developed a liking from it thanks to Matchaya, ironically. And I was pleasantly surprised (again) when it came with a miniature 'carp bread', which was slowly collapsing to one side as I snapped away, so I recommend taking individual shots of the food instead of trying to take them as a set like what I did here. I can't remember what is the filling (should be the basic one), and the hojicha is just.. A decent cup of hojicha π (pardon my lack of vocabulary)
It's quite a nice place to chill, and I would love to have it up in the North because of the variety of dishes that they provide. One minor complaint is probably that there is no glass panels at the main side of the cafe, and because it's located just beside one of the entrances of the mall, I experienced bursts of hot air from where I sat (the couch chairs facing the main counter)
The staff offered a sample of cranberry vinegar with basil seeds when she saw me staring hard at the menu trying to decide which drink to get, and it tasted refreshing. I chose plum vinegar green tea (among the 4 choices of tea available) since it is a recommended drink, and with green tea I reckon it wouldn't be as sour? (but the guy before me ordered peach vinegar)
My drink is very refreshing, which is good for hot days like today. I'll be looking forward to try their fresh milk teas (I became a sucker for fresh milk teas after last year's Taipei trip, and the difference is quite significant if the drinks are decent enough) and fruit teas next time! (even though I'm spoilt for choice with so many drink shops available in Northpoint π)
I started looking forward to this shop ever since I saw it appear in the Northpoint City directory a few months ago. It finally opened a few days ago and of course I went to try it (especially since it is a tea shop hailing from Taiwan).
I tried tieguanyin latte (sadly pearl isn't ready yet) and it occurred to me only much later that the staff didn't ask me for sugar level. But the drink felt just right for me - usually I'll opt for 25%-50% sugar level and anything beyond that is too sweet for me. So I suppose that's a good thing?
And I think the portion is quite worth the money. This cup of tieguanyin latte (600cc) cost me $3.90, which I think is comparable to the drinks in other shops. And yes I believe I would come back again to try their original brews (even though there's going to be 9 drink shops in Northpoint/GV area)
'Living this moment now', the phrase on the cup says.
Chanced upon this tea shop while walking kinda aimlessly around the area trying to find a nice drink to quench my thirst. Being adventurous as always, I decided to get from this shop and chose Tsubaki Oolong with golden pearls to be safe (the Xoxolat Hojicha seems interesting too).
The price for the basic teas are standard ($3.50 for hot and $4.50 for cold) unless you are getting flavoured fruit teas or iced lattero. And the basic teas come with free toppings too!
The tea tasted refreshing with a hint of something that I cannot pinpoint to (my dad thinks that it's an Indian spice lol) - I'm guessing it might be camellia flower since Tsubaki means camellia flower in Japanese.
I'm glad to see more tea shops popping up in SG selling a variety of basic teas. Can't wait to try the hojicha next!
