The Guang Zhou Claypot Rice (S$12++) was comforting Chinese cuisine encapsulated in a claypot. Scrumptious flavours with plenty of ingredients, & priced affordably as well. We totally scraped the bits at the bottom of the claypot clean.

More atypical of food pairing with cocktails at a bar would be the soup & rice, which were both winners in my books.
Thereโs just something about the Herbal Chicken Soup ($20++), with such robust flavours that feel so nourishing. If I didnโt have this at a media tasting, Iโd consider this my own personal pot & wouldnโt want to share ๐คซ

Perhaps I can speak about this in terms of "actual nibbles" - the Popcorn Chicken ($12++) was strangely addictive.. If I can say this after all that time spent taking photos of everything, that says something. While this is a fairly common finger food/bar bite, it is nicely done & also comes with a house aoili on the side to dip in.

The food here are in manageable portions. I don't know if you'd call this a nibble, but I loved the Sambal Smoked Duck ($22+); it's spicy, but doesn't make you choke on the heat & feel like death. Maybe because it's actually a tomato sambal ๐
The slices of smoked duck are buried under a mountain of tapioca chips - these, while simple, give a nice crunch to this dish.

I don't suppose I need to say much about the theme behind Spectre, as youโve probably read much about it in the 3+ months theyโve been open. But ICYMI, they are a mental-wellness themed cocktail bar with unique drinks & delicious nibbles.
With the vintage apothecary decor, this is a cosy space in Tanjong Pagar for a drink (or two) with some good food. Iโd actually been on my own a few times before this hosted tasting - overall, a great experience here each time. Would certainly return on my own or with a small group of friends.

Would I come back here? Iโm undecided. Service was so lukewarm, unfortunately almost unwelcoming.. But the regulars seemed to be treated with chirpy cheer. Lots came to takeaway loaves of bread, popping in & out for a quick pickup.
Iโm inclined to say I would not return, from a dine-in perspective.. But I might consider takeout if itโs convenient/on the way. For those who are keen to dine in, bear in mind this is a small establishmentโฆ There are only 12 seats indoors, & a few seats outdoors.

I was horrified when my Latte (8oz, $4.50 nett) came in a paper cup. I try to avoid disposables when I can.. & this came without any pretty art, which was disappointing. It tasted fine, but it was an unfortunate mismatch in expectations from the pictures Iโd previously seen.

Even though I don't like bacon, I still enjoyed my Bacon & Egg ($6.90 nett) sandwich (it was the only option available that day). It had a winning combination of savoury bacon with sweet tomato relish. I loved how the bread was toasted; crispy yet not tough. Glad they didnโt mess that up, as a bakery ๐
The sunny side up egg could've been less done such that the yolk is runny - I prefer my eggs overeasy, & a runny yolk is also good for the โgram, isnโt it? But at the very least, it wasnโt powderyโฆ Thank God.
This came with a 20-minute wait; I appreciated how they pre-empted me of the waiting time as I ordered it. Sat in a corner sipping on my coffee, doing my own thing & people-watching from time to time.

The breakfast menu at Firestone Bakery is only available on weekends, & they are priced more affordable than the other menu of sandwiches. After purposefully making the journey here, I was quite sad that the only 2 breakfast sandwiches available that day had bacon as a meat inside. My least favourite meat.. Ugh.

Viet Gร ($23++) piqued my curiosity & thus I decided to order it. I loved the tender roasted chicken as protein of choice, & the crushed peanuts + crunchy beansprouts for good texture.
To expectations & much appreciation, since this is Viet-inspired, I also enjoyed the herbs (mint & coriander) on top. The sliced red chilli featured prominently, but it was not overwhelming. It gave a good kick to my tastebuds once in a while when I bite into it.
In all, I felt this was just okay - we finished the pie, but it wasnโt mind-blowing & Iโm on the fence if Iโd order this again.
(Note: I'm posting this review pretty belatedly, & it seems like they've taken it off the menu since then.)
