More Reviews of good food at Barrio by Mex Out (313@Somerset)

Barrio is my favorite mexican restaurant in sg as it has so many varities of mexican dishes to choose from and you can choose your proteins as well to go with the dish. Decided to try their chicken tacos this time round. The protein that they use is the same for all dishes. The crispy tacos we not that crispy and a bit soggy. However, the generous amount of ingredients made up for it. Juicy marinated chicken with sweet pineapple salsa and lettuce🤤. Very filling as well. Comparee to other mexican restaurants, i would say that this dish is worth $12.

Tacos Tuesday is always a fantasy but with the mindset like Emmett and the feisty cooks of Barrio by Mex Out; Taco Tuesday is a dream come true everyday! So everything is awesome! Barrio has a fantastic location which is really convenient with the MRT to Somerset and a short walk leads you to this brightly lit place that serves delicious Mexican fare!
After much reading and analysis of the menu, we decided to get the Tacos individually (SGD8 per piece) but you still can get those sets like Tacos for One, I’m hungry or Tacos Fiesta! But we went for the Pork Carnitas, Baja Fish & 6Hr Braised Beef.. The tacos are all freshly made and each of them are just out of this world! The Braised beef for me is the stand out as it just melts in your mouth! Effortless eating and the pork carnitas has some spice kick to it alongside with the tenderness of the pork!

First time trying this place! I’ve always enjoyed Mexican food but never really had the chance to try it in Singapore...till yesterday! We shared braised beef + baja fish tacos which were really flavorful - the taco shell/skin (?) was thin so it didn’t feel too heavy BUT with the heaps of toppings it was actually really filling. The beef was soft and flavorful, and the fish was crispy thought the sauce was a bit overwhelming imo. The pork quesadillas were delicious, and went especially well with the guac. The guac itself was super fresh and I ate it straight from the bowl hahaha + the salsa was good too, although a bit spicy!!! Overall it was a good meal but a bit overpriced :’)

Being a Mexican restaurant, we were expecting out of the world flavors. However, our fish and prawn tacos were really mediocre. The portions were really small and we’re glad that it’s on Entertainer. If not, the disappointment would be doubled. The beer battered sea bass tasted like sad fish and chips (not crispy) drizzled with chipotle aioli topped with pickled cabbage. There were 2 prawns in each taco which were big and fresh but there’s too much chipotle and cheese sauce coating them, which made the flavors very one dimensional. Definitely lacked something citrusy in these tacos to give them a kick. #burpple

Salad-a-day but not super healthy. There were guac, chicken, salsa, parmesan, black beans, at just $10 instead of $15, every monday! #salad #mexicanfood #burpplesg #burpple #sgfoodies #sgfood #foodstagram @mexout

Got a hankering for Mexican food, and happened to pass by this one. It's good! You'll feel full without feeling guilty. 👌🏽

Very elated that the mexican food stall sells churros! $4 for 5, with a dip! Good snacking ~

Tried 3 different flavors of tacos - pulled pork, char grilled chicken and carne asada (beef). The winner has got to be the pulled pork as it was juicy and full of flavor. The beef slices were juicy and tender on its own but isn't as flavorful when eaten together with the tortilla. Chicken was very average though. Loaded nachos was really loaded with beef and cheese soooo good! Spent around $28 per pax.

Ala carte price at 13.40$ for two pieces with this quality of fish is totally worth it! As much as it looks small, it's really quite filling. Would definitely come back again to try the other kinds of wraps and fillings. I guess the only downside is that they don't have much choice for the drinks.

Fresh, quality fish makes all the difference in a good fish taco. The firm, succulent flesh of the sea bass fillet was unmasked by its crisp beer batter, and well-complemented by tangy salsa, pickled red cabbage, and chipotle aioli. This will get your taco cravings sorted, but really, who needs a reason to go Mexican anyway?

Yes, it may be pricey for corn, but good elotes is always worth paying for. Sink your teeth into glam-sized corn on cob, expertly charred, rubbed with mayo & sour cream mix and paprika, and finished with cotija cheese and no less.

Enjoyed these more than the fish tacos last round. Grilled chicken with tomato salsa, lotsa lettuce and cheese.
💫
A casual atmosphere, with tacos ranging from $12-$15 onwards.

🌮

I keep telling myself that I'll make it to Mexico one day to enjoy all the Awesome Mexican food like: Quesadillas, Burrito, Tortas, Tacos & etc. 🥙
Barrio by Mex Out serves decent Tacos, Crispy Beer Battered Sea Bass, a little tanginess from the Salsa & Chipotle Aioli to cut the oiliness. It'll get messy so eat with your hands for maximum pleasure. 😋

ACAMASTIPS💮: I don't want Tacos, said no Juan ever. That's why it a meal with a drink & sides with a top up of a few dollars (price varies with different Tacos)
Get the Pulled Pork Tacos as well (Same Price as the Fish Tacos) 🖖🏻

Also available in grilled chicken and beef steak options. Didn't realise that only the vegetarian option comes with guacamole, which you can add to any dish for $2. Quite tasty overall but I still prefer Vatos Urban Tacos' kick-ass, ultra-flavourful version. #burpple

Never go wrong with this place if you're craving for some affordable Mexican cuisine. The good mix of lime and sour cream and black beans always make me come back for more!

Two fish tacos + a choice of sides + soft drink for $17.30 tho kinda on the pricey side but ... Think beer battered sea bass on a bed of piquant pickled red cabbage dressed in chipotle sauce. What's more the fish was light & crunchy and despite it being deep fried, it doesn't leave any oily traces at all!
