[CLOSED] Chicky Fun (Sengkang)

Sergeant Kiang – one of the chefs that pioneered Chatterbox’ award-winning chicken rice in 1971 – has partnered with Kopitiam to bring affordable but quality chicken rice with Chicky Fun. Tuck into the familiar succulent and tender poached chicken without breaking the bank, and while you’re at it, try the chicken ‘char siew’ slicked in a sticky, sweet glaze. The roasted chicken is just as well-executed as the steamed version, save for the irresistible, glistening golden skin. The kitchen staff go through training under Sgt. Kiang personally, so regardless of which outlet you go to, dine assured that you’ll get a consistently good quality.

To go with our traditional plate of chicken rice, we also had roast chicken, fried chicken, chicken innards and vegetables. Because they are halal-certified, they uses chicken to create “char siew”.

He was the pioneer batch of chefs that started the legendary Chatter Box chicken rice at Mandarin Hotel from 1971, and subsequently opened Sergeant Chicken at Rasa Singapura and Jiang Ji Chicken Rice. Even though some of his ventures did not materialize, I am glad that they now have 15 outlets in Kopitiam serving HALAL-CERTIFIED chicken rice, all rebranded under the name Chicky Fun. Everything is cooked on location, chicken is not too oily yet tasty (if you have the chance, watch how his son debone the chicken). Solid chilli sauce, no white vinegar, just lime, garlic, ginger and chilli! Thank you Uncle Bob for arranging the meal!
