It has been many years since I have visited ban leong wah hoe for zi char and the exteriors of the shop still looks the same! Ordered their signature dishes: the prawn paste chicken and hot plate beancurd. The fried chicken was well fried and not overly oily whereas the beancurd has a spicy aftertaste in the hotplate gravy that resembles a very mild chilli crab sauce that requires more sweetness and savoury flavours to enhance the dish.

Run by second-generation restaurateurs, this Upper Thomson locale has built a name for its Chilli Crab ($60/kg). The crabs are slicked in a rich gravy, which you’ll want to mop up with deep-fried mantou. Expect an average 30-minute queue time β€” come with patient, crab-loving friends.

Come here to bring my guest from overseas as they want to try chili crab. Went with 1.5 kg, fat crab but i prefer gravy with more kick. The gravy is towards tomato-ish kind, i prefer if its a little more spicy. Ordered bday mee sua, kailan, venison, clams, chicken wings. Spent $200 for 6 and we are really full to the brim.

This is definitely one of my Favourite Zhi char stall! This hidden gem has passed down many generations and I remembered visiting this place when I was a kid! Very delicious food with sweet old memories , how comforting!

Absolutely in love with all the food presented to us !
We finish almost everything especially the chilli crab and black pepper crab !

We were famished and ended up ordering a lot. 8 dishes (large servings) for 9 adults, and we finished all the food! Go early for dinner before the queue gets long! Total damage: $17/pax including drinks

Many other customers ordered their chili crabs with Mantou - looks yummy!

Dishes ordered: signature lala, prawn paste chicken, sambal kangkong, sliced fish with ginger & onion, fu yong omelette, sweet & sour pork, hot plate beancurd with seafood, deep fried squid

Having tried both flavours, my heart is leaned towards the latter which had a greater kick with a strong peppery flavour that contributed to a lingering shiok spiciness. The crab meats were also fresh, soft and delicate - worth getting your hands dirty for and the patience in peeling them off the hard rigid shells! πŸ’–
