This spot in Dover Rise Coffee Shop is great for hearty family dinners. Not only is there killer fish soup, you can (let's make that a 'must' instead) also enjoy what is arguably one of the best Har Cheong Gai ($9) around. Order the XO Fish Bee Hoon ($6/pax) that comes with both sliced and fried fish, thick bee hoon and a peppery, milky broth spiked with XO brandy. Pro-tip: also order their excellent San Lou Hor Fun ($6) to share.

Fishing good fish soup . Generous and tastes awesome because of the XO. Prawn rolls were great and had an amazing mouth feel.

I do think it is good but not mind blowing so.....

Taste: BEST San Lou Hor Fun ever! Generous portion of sliced fish. And FRESH!

Atmosphere: Clean and well-maintained coffeeshop.

Service: Staff was very friendly and prompt to response. Food was served within 10 minutes. Great service!

Price: ~$10

Where to find this place: Dover Road

While the fish slices are more on the chewy side, I have to say the serving size is pretty generous. The soup is sweet and full of aroma. We finished every sip of it😋! .
Another popular dish available here is their Ha Cheong Hai (Fried Prawn Paste Chicken). The Ha Cheong Gai is fragrant and crispy, it's definitely finger licking good as well 😻👍

XO Fish Meat Beehoon - $12 for 2 pax
A big bowl of XO fish meat beehoon, definitely sufficient for 2 pax. The soup is very flavourful, XO well mixed in the slight peppery fish soup, not over powering. Thick beehoon is cut to medium length allowing you to eat with spoon. I love that cabbage is cooked till soft but still remaining it’s sweetness. It’s a pity their thick fish meat was slightly fried to maintain the shape but prohibiting the soup’s flavours from entering. Careful with the fish chunks as I fished a couple fish bones out of it while eating

Holland Village XO Fish Head

Spices and wine are my kind of things, and today I had this craving for a taste from early adulthood days. I recalled this restaurant from Holland Drive area and it appeared that they had moved to their current location.

But I was still very impressed with their XO Fish Meat Bee Hoon (S$12.00 for 2 pax). The milky fish soup was cooked with ground black and white pepper, and XO was added with the already existent yellow rice wine (花雕酒), so you bet the soup is filled with that layers of goodness. I was so tempted to pick up the large bowl to drink the remaining soup, but I guess I should watch my table manners.

The cabbage, just like the thick Bee Hoon, where cut into bite size, so scooping it with the ladle instead of using chopsticks is actually possible. But what I really loved was that they were cooked until softened, making them very easy to chew and swallow.

The fish were chunky and firm, and fried beforehand. Just be informed that some of these chunks might still have hidden fish bones, so consume with caution.
